On tap at The Brass Tap. It pours amber with tan head and lasting tan spider web lacing. The aroma carries some malts, a bit of roast, vanilla spice, cinnamon, raisin and a touch of nuttiness. The taste starts neutral for a moment or two and then moves into malts and nuttiness. By midway raisins, vanilla and some spicy cinnamon surface and push this toward the finish with the vanilla and cinnamon spice growing right into the after taste.

Bottle with thanks to mcbackus. Pours a massive head of dense bubbles with a little bit of an orange liquid at the bottom of the glass. Fruity aromas hit the nose from distance and closer inspection reveals a bit of sourness (like sour grapes). The head has receded about an inch, so I pour in some more liquid and the head shoots back up to the rim... this one is definitely a live wire. First sip reveals a lot of brett-like barnyard sourness with a touch of grass and fruit, but I’m not quite sure if I would pin the fruitiness as \"guava\" based. It seems to be more like lemon peels or something. The texture is nice enough... kind of smooth and light, but there are moments as it slides across the palate that it seems a bit watery and washed out. Then the bretty aftertaste kicks in and it’s all lemons and farm animals again.

Second rating (original rating 9.28.2009) Aroma is much different than my initial observations. This batch smells like a cigar shop... cedar and cedar and a bit of the fruit I picked out my first go round. Flavor starts with a massive punch of cedar (Humidor Series is a brilliant name... it’s like smelling and then drinking a cigar shop). The cedar yields to malt and then hops presences... malt is mostly a short biscuit and caramel jab and then the hops grass, citrus and light pine take it home. This is much more aggressive with the cedar than the last time I had this and it is much improved. (Original score: 7, 4, 8, 4, 17)

Smells like lemon and melons. Maybe even guavas. Flavor is also very fruit/sweet dominated. Lots of citrus even though it seems more like grapefuit now with some of that odd melon presence. This is good and very different than I had guessed.

GABF2009 - much like their Cuban Espresso Maduro, there is a kind of burnt/ashy/char character to this, but unlike that beer, this is tempered/smoothed out by the smoothness of oatmeal, and the lovely spiciness of rye ྸ%, hell yes!) - it’s also got a strong backbone of nutty character and chocolate sweetness - finishes off with potent american hops - fairly solid.

Bottled 1/246. A murky amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, bourbon, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel, alcohol, and a bit of wood, leading to a dry alcoholic finish where the wood lingers. The alcohol burns in the mouth. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

75 cL bottle, 1/246. Pours cloudy to hazy dark orange with a small tan head. Aroma is solid alcohol and roasted malt aroma. Sweet, caramelish and mild yeasty flavoured. Light phenolic. Mild fruity and roasted malty flavoured into the far finish. Smooth bourbon note into the far finish.

Hazy red brown color; small head. Strong vanilla oak aroma, old wood. Medium body strength, good caramel flavor, with some residual sweetness and light smoke touch; lightly nutty too, mostly in the final; the alcohol gives a warming feeling. Good.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Retorp. Bottle # 1/246. Hazy orangey golden with a small, off-white head. Distinct aroma of bourbon and ashes. Solid body, sweet caramel, nuts and ashes, vaguely peaty. Hardly any bitterness in the finish, but warming alcohol and Bourbon. Certainly appears stonger than 8.5%. 220909

Bottle shared by Illinismitty. Thanks! Pours opaque black with a lasting tan head. Chocolate and espresso aroma. Rich and smooth, sweet, but with enough roast malt bitterness to balance. Full bodied, coating. Very well done.

750ml bottle courtesy dkachur-pours a dissipating to a ring tan head and dark brown color. Aroma is scotch, peat/roasty-medium malt with some chocolate, secondary earthy hops. Taste is scotch, peat/roasty-medium malt with some chocolate, secondary earthy hops. Towards full body.
