On tap at Sprig and Fern, Hardy St. Pours pale and a bit lifeless. Peach, lemon, little bitterness, quite sharp. Quite coarse texture. Not enough bitterness to deserve the pilsener tag in my opinion, with a fairly unimpressive pale lager a better description. Not great.

On tap at S&F, Tahunanui. Opaque brown/black colour. Thin film on top. Dark chocolate nose. Full-bodied with a coffee/dark chocolate finish. Gets better as it warms. A bit like a caramel malt sundae but in a good beery way.

On tap at S&F, Tahunanui. Golden beer with tiny collar of bubbles. Smells of lemon, malt, some grass. Taste is sweet fruit and malt. Flat mouthfeel. Light finish has apricot notes. Doesn’t look the best, not much bitterness but enjoyable none the less. Alcohol well hidden.

Pint on tap at S&F, Tahunanui. Savoury malt nose, like sweet cooked tomatoes. Some chocolate even. Brown beer with thin white head. Classic bitter. Zingy, full-bodied. Chocolate/cocoa taste, lemon sherbet in the finish. There’s a lot going on for a bitter. It’s brilliant and moreish, a really enjoyable beer.

Pint on tap at S & F, Tahunanui. Caramel coloured beer with thin white head. Lightly carbonated. Malty/fruity nose, biscuity. Slight tingle on the tongue. It’s like a malt biscuit with a touch of lemon curd! Distant bitter lemon finish, touch of sherbet. Solid enough and super easy drinking.
