Hazy golden pour with a white head. Notes of citrus, lemon zest, wheat, yeast and light yeast spiciness, light coriander. A bit too dry and bitter, but otherwise a good representative of the style.

Bottle @ home. Brown to black colour with a medium sized, creamy, offwhite head. Smells chocolate, salty liquorice, soysauce. Tastes sweet, chocolate, slightly smoked malts which results in a hint of bacon and eggs. Medium body, soft carbo, slightly silky.

0.33 l bottle from ’Van der Velden Wijn & Gedistillierd’, bottled in March 2017. Minimally hazy, golden amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, yeasty-spicy, moderately floral and slightly fruity aroma of clove, dill, ginger, caramel and some banana. Slightly sweetish, moderately bitter, rather yeasty-spicy, slightly fruity and a bit floral taste of clove, banana, lemongrass, ginger, caramel and hints of peach, followed by a medium long, rather yeasty-spicy, moderately bitter, slightly grassy and rather dry finish. Medium body, moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice!

My second beer from this brewery, of which I like the concept, the names and the labels, bottle from a Mitra in Flevoland. Egg-white, moussy, regulary shaped head, stable on the edge but quickly dissipating in the middle, on top of an initially cristal clear, warm orange blonde beer with very lightly pinkish tinge, lightly hazy and even deeper orange with sediment. Aroma already oxidized alas, a bit ’rusty’, clearly this bottle is already too old; still it breathes pleasant hints of biscuit, dried orange peel, sweet red apple, chicken spices, rainwater, pumpkin soup, white pepper, hard butterscotch candy, dried ginger. Crisp, refreshing onset, clean fruity profile of dried mandarin, unripe banana and hard pear or apple peel, spritzy carbonation but acceptable for a session beer of below 5%, adding a bit of ’body’, so to speak. Biscuity, clean malt middle, toasted edges supporting the hop bitterness as it should be, the latter delivering a quenching, drying, spicy, long-stretched bitterness, grapefruity, tonic water-ish and peppery, with some retronasal grapefruit peel aromas - which are unfortunately accompanied by that ’rusty’ oxidation effect. Too bad I stumbled upon an old bottle: I am confident that this brewery knows what they are doing, I am still motivated to find more of their bird-themed beers and I am convinced that in young condition, ideally from tap perhaps, this was a textbook session IPA. Will upgrade when I come across this again in younger condition.
