Associated Venue: Copper Bottom Brewing
Established in 2003
Their passion for craft beer started in 2003, when Ken was hired to sell six-packs out of the back door of Propeller Brewing in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Over the next 14 years, Ken would spend his time developing recipes and turning his brewing obsession into a plan to open a craft brewery in Montague, now known as Copper Bottom Brewing. Together, the husband and wife duo remain firmly rooted in the belief that building a brewery is just as important as building a community gathering spot; somewhere locals can gather, meet new friends, and experience world-class entertainment - all while enjoying an award-winning beer.

INFECTED STOUT.
16oz (thx, Josh!) @ SF
Aroma: berries, honey, American oak. Inky. Weird one.
Taste: highly carbonated, very fruity, a lot of balsamic and American oak notes.
Overall: it definitely fails as a BA stout, but it is a good BA dark wild ale, hehe.

Medium brown. Has some nice dark sugars, but it's fairly tart. It didn't fizz up, so maybe the issue

Poured from 500mL bottle. Dark mahogany brown with dissipating light beige head. Soft fruity bourbon, feint hint of vanilla, touch of tart molasses. Odd, something off, yet not offensive. More of a sour imperial stout, than a Russian imperial stout with some complexity. What is probably some sort of infection, somehow works.

On tap at the excellent Hopyard, one of the barmans favourite beers and I have to agree. An outstanding APA

The can poured with a bit of a gusher right out of the glass. It's definitely well-carbonated, and I'm not sure that's intended. Pale and hazy. The aroma is a bit of woody hop, some biscuity pale malt...and maybe a bit of bugs...I mean there's probably bugs. On the palate, not getting much of anything off, just a straight ahead pale ale with medium hop, a woody accent, some pale malt malt. Just a bit overcarbonated, but even that's within reason. The big froth-up wasn't about much.

Poured from 473mL can (5.9% abv). Chill hazed gold with small white head. Caramel malt, mild citrus hops. Okay, but nothing special.

473mL can, courtesy of Oakes, pours a clear copper with a large white head. Nose is very malt-forward, with tons of caramel malt, butterscotch that borders on diacetyl, and chewy resins. Flavour is pretty egregious: lots of sweet caramel malt, butterscotch, very subdued resinous hops, and maybe some diacetyl. Cloyingly sweet in a cough syrupy type of way. This is pretty bad.

Amber, bright, chewy and bitter, so really old school in that regard. The hop’s not that bright, which ultimately dulls the entire presentation. There’s just nothing to pull you in here.

Amber, bright, just a thin head. Light piney aroma but on the palate it’s kind of sticky, lacking appropriate bitterness or hop expression.

Very dark brown, medium head. The aroma is quite toasty. On the palate, more bitter chocolate, good hop note, some malt sweetness and touch of oats in the body. Good balance.
