On tap at the brewpub. This was their seasonal and my server could only tell me that it was made with spiced rum. Pours a dark brown that borders on black with a thinnish tan head with marginal retention. The aroma is spicy and herbal. Reminds me of absinthe and anise. The taste is a roasty chocolate with earthy herbal notes to it. I don’t think there was any oak involved in this it tastes like they brewed a porter and poured some Captain Morgan into it. Medium body with fizzy carbonation and a thin watery mouthfeel. Interesting beer with some odd flavor combinations. Not something I would order often, but glad I got to try it.

On tap at the brewpub and served with an orange wedge for whatever reason. Pours a murky cloudy light grapefruit juice without much of a head or retention. Smell is lemony with a spicy wheat aroma. I pick up oranges as well, but I’m not sure if that came form the beer or the wedge I tossed aside. Taste follows the aroma fairly well and was better than I thought it would be. Mildly spicy with lemon and pepper and phenols. Medium body and level of carbonation, tart slick mouthfeel. Decent wit that I enjoyed.

On tap at the brewpub Pours a clear reddish brown color with a smallish tan head that dissipates almost instantly. Smells of cherries and other dark pitted fruits, alcohol and a plastic phenolic in there as well. Taste is a mix of cherry syrup and alcohol on top of a malty backbone. Medium to thick body, light carbonation, sweet sticky mouthfeel. I had high hopes for this one, but as has been my experience with Madison brewing thus far this beer is OK but nothing special.

On tap at the Brewpub Pours a deep reddish amber color with an off white head that sticks around for a bit. Smells sweet with caramel, sugar, cherry, prune, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is mostly sweet caramel and cherry with hints of melanoid and alcohol. A bit over carbonated with a medium body and a sweet slick chalky mouthfeel. This was probably my favorite beer from Madison, but it is still just an average beer.

On tap at the brewpub served with a wedge of lime for some reason. Pours a clear deep golden color with a thinnish white head. Smells of spicy wheat malt and a sweet honey like well sweetness. Sweet honey like taste with an earthy spicy wheat edge to it. The taste is OK, maybe I should have kept the lime in it. Medium body with a medium to high level of carbonation and a spicy sticky mouthfeel. Not a bad honey wheat beer, but not a great one either.

On tap at the brewpub Pours a clear golden color with thinnish white head and retention. Smells of grainy and honey malt with a slightly earthy hop aroma. Taste is sweet with and earthy hop bite. Honey and grass maltiness come through nicely until the finish hits with a weird astringent plastic phenolic taste. Light body with a medium level of carbonation and a sweet almost sticky mouthfeel. I think this would have been a great light beer if there wasn’t something obviously wrong with it.
