Description

0.33 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', best before November 2022. Slightly hazy, dark ruby with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity and slightly yeasty-spicy aroma of caramel, raisins, cherry, marzipan, some vanilla and a touch of molasses. Rather sweet, malty, gently fruity and slightly yeasty-spicy taste of caramel, raisins, cherry, marzipan and traces of clove, followed by a medium long, gently bitter, slightly warming, minimally tartish finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant beer, nicely balanced and quite complex. Way better than their beers a few years ago.

0.33 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', best before December 2021. Clear, orangeish amber with a medium large, frothy, stable, white head. Sweetish, rather fruity, gently floral and a bit resiny aroma of mango, orange, peach, light green peppers and hints of spruce. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, quite fruity, floral taste of orange, tangerine, mango, a touch of green peppers and traces of spruce, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly resiny and a bit grassy finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Tasty, refreshing IPA, way more balanced and harmonious than other SHIPA variants from Naeckte which I had a few years back.

330ml bottle. Hazy, brown-ish, amber colour with small, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Sweet-ish, caramel malty and fruity-spicy yeasty aroma, a touch of cocoa, whiffs of ammonia. Taste is watery and bitter alcoholic, a diluted touch of caramel and cocoa; bitter, alcoholic finish. Watery texture, minimally dry palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Way too boozy for 7.5% abv, more weird Brown Ale than Bock - abstruse.

It’s Bock beer season in Holland, so time to honour the yearly tradition and taste a few of them – thanks Craftmember for sharing this one. Thin yellowish beige, bubbly, quickly opening and dissipating head on a misty ‘dirty orange’-tinged amber beer with vague pale brownish tinge. Aroma of hard caramel, thyme, dried fig, some ‘band aid’-like phenols, old bread, dried apricot, pear, medlar, nutmeg, herb tea. Sweetish onset, cleanly fruity, hinting at peach, apricot and red apple, softishly carbonated, smooth and bit glueish, but also somewhat thinnish body. Caramelly, slightly honeyish and thinly brown-bready malts with a very light toasty-bitterish accent but also something annoyingly grainy; herbal and outspokenly phenolic finish, even band aid-like, with a herbal, tea-ish hop bitter note underneath. Undercarbonated, bit thin in the malt department and overly phenolic for the style, this is far from the best traditional Dutch ‘herfstbok’ I had to date, nor the best Naeckte brew either. Drinkable alright, but not entirely flawless – a pity.
