Description
Mala Gissona was founded in Oiartzun in 2015 by Iban Zabala and Manu Murillo. Its name comes from the old Icelandic-Basque pidgin expression ''For ju Mala Gissuna'', meaning you´re a bad man, used in the 15th century by whale hunters. They have a taproom in San Sebastián, the Mala Gissona Beer House.

Hazy gold beer, thin pale cream colour head. Light palate, semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Thin malts, some light sweetness. Piney hop. Very tangy but bright fruits. Orange, lemon, yellow grapefruit, touch of apricot. Light crisp minerally finish. Okay. Bit tangy and sadly no obvious Yuzu.

Bottle at La Tasca, Queen Square, Liverpool. Dark gold, clear ith a tight off-white head. Resinous aroma with sone piney hop and ligbt floral notes. Sweet taste, more resinous character, with a touch and a half of bittetness in the finish. Body is thin but well-carbonated. Simple and light but surprisingly delicious.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 21A). Can 33 cl - Batch L.267 (BBF 03/2020). AROMA: medium hop aroma with slight tropical fruit and pine. low background of sweet neutral malt. APPEARANCE: gold colour and clear. medium off-white head, creamy, with good retention. lace formation. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium hop flavour (faint tropical fruit, low pine, slight fresh), followed by a slightly sweet and neutral malt background. medium-high bitterness that lasts into a dry and bitter finish. PALATE: medium-low body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a nice IPA.
