Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

330ml, bottle.
Close to no head, I could only see one layer of bubbles forming, then they formed a little island in the middle, and rapidly popped and vanished into the shadow realm :( Seeing all the glass shots with thin head make me jealous..
Black color, low carbonation. Balanced flavor, I enjoyed it despite not being a huge fan of this style of beer.

Near opaque dark brown beer, a decent bubbly tan head but, it retreats to the rim at pace. Smooth and very slightly viscous palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation developing on the back end. The dark malts are laden with bitterish dark chocolate and, a fair dose of coffee. Vanilla obvious in the mid but, struggling to keep the overall bitterness in check and unusually, not generating any milk choc by mating with the dark malts. Coconut milk is an afterthought and, really not bringing anything sweet. Rye whiskey dominates the back end, rich boozy ripe fruits and, a fair dollop of alcohol spice. Slightly viscous finish. Has muscle this one but, if you have tastes many whiskey barrel aged impies before, don't hold yer breath for anything new, just a good unsweet example of style.

Had it at O'Malleys, Vasa.
Poured hazy orange in color.
Fruits, oranges, not much bitterness. Ok, infused ipa.

Tip Tap draught, 2/6/26, as pictured.
Slightly roast with fudge and dark chocolate. No truffle apparent at the outset. Earth and dark fruit emerging with warming. Some sweet date, perhaps.
Both sweet and bitter at first which is odd. Slight smoke, soy, fudge and maybe a hint of dry alcohol. Still not getting much, if any truffle. Maybe just a bit of salt, really. Lots of peppery bitterness lingering to balance the moderately fudgey malts. The juxtaposition of sweet and bitter should work better than it does, but it's just a bit too overwhelming and disjointed. I'm glad the truffles are tastefully-[under]done.

Can from Systembolaget. Light hopped aroma. Dark brown. Nice mature flavour, balances deep caramel, with hint of coffee, and hops. Not my favourite type of beer, but weirdly one that gets better when you focus on it.
