Description
It is to the Gagné family that we owe the incomparable quality of this orchard which has been pampered for 3 generations. From the 200 apple trees planted by Armand Gagné in the 1930s, which were multiplied by Claude Gagné at the turn of the 1960s, then by the sustained efforts of Suzanne Gagné, Quebec’s first woman cidricator, and her husband Gilles Barbeau at the beginning of the years 2000, this family marked the territory of the Valiant by the quality of their products.

Turning now the torch to another family, Cidrerie La Pomme du St-Laurent became the Domaine RITT. The new owners wish to enhance what has been done, while bringing new life, perhaps for several more generations. The little Ritt will know how to say it.

Corked bottle, mooch tasting, courtesy of Sergey and the gang; 7% ABV
Amber colour, slight haze. Stewed apple, and a touch ov vanilla. Mild residual sweetness, and for being just 7%, the alcohol seems too evident; acetic note; apple juice, bit of final astringency, maple doesn't easily come to mind. Not very complex, but pleasant.

(375ml bottle from the cidrery stall at the Quebec City German Christmas Market) Pours clear pale amber without head. Notes of sugared and poached baking apples, moderate caramelization, some red fruit accents, floral vanilla and honey type overtones, light fruit acidity to balance the sweetness, cinnamon-like spicebox accents, long finish of baking apples in caramel and a touch of fresh acidity, bit of earth and spicebox and unexpected woodiness. Medium-full oily to syrupy body, flat. A solid if not wildly complex ice cider-like product.

500ml (thx, Mathieu A.!) shared with Josh @ Ryan's. Appearance: clear copper. Aroma: nice red apples, some sweetness, just a bit of maple syrup, a bold body feel. Taste: along the same lines, good body, moderately sweet. A maple makes a good addition to the complexity making it somewhat similar to ice cider. Overall: not very complex probably, but pleasant and enjoyable.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Clear amber with no head. Quite a nice aroma of stewed apple, lacks the depth and complexity of an ice cider, but it's decent.

Dark amber. The aroma is like a woody apple note, maybe a touch of maple, that's mostly fermented out. Sweet up front, fairly thick, rich, not quite ice cider but going in that direction. While there's a little bit of maple on the nose, maybe a little on the palate, it's definitely something that mostly fermented out and left only a little bit of it's character. And yet, there's a fair bit of sweetness, so I wonder if we're talking maple sap rather than syrup? You can make this many ways. Anyway, I like it.

Bottle sample at Mondial Des Cidres, pours a clear dull yellow. Nose brings out rather subdued maple and light crisp apples. Flavour brings out a more dominant maple character upfront, with moderately sweet apples and gentle acidity. Nice incorporation of the maple, which is balanced by the acidity. Very good.

Bottle sample at Mondial Des Cidres, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out slightly spicy apples, with crisp champagne effervescence. Flavour reveals a sort of cracked black pepper, spicy apples, and champagne funk. Dry but not too much, with a peppery finish. Very good.

Bottle sample at Mondial Des Cidres, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out plenty of dry hops, along with crisp green apple skins. Flavour brings out vibrant dry hops, some citrus, and light acidity. Nice use of the hops here. Good stuff.
