The brewhouse consists of three kettles from 1946 and a wort filter from 2014. The kettles are made of red copper and are “hammered” by hand into the existing shapes. The capacity is 3000 kg deposit. In the past, brews of 250 to 300 hl of lager were produced with this. Today we brew 110 hl per brew since the current beers are of a much higher density.

Draught. Nut brown, slightly cloudy. Head is white and creamy but not very stable. Served very cold (at Het Anker) Acidic/sour aroma. Flavour is mild but tasteful. Fruity, malty, caramelly. Aftertaste is malty and not very bitter. The beer is nice, refreshing and satiating (I was hungry).

2001 bottle ABV 8.5% Red-brown colour. The foam gushed out of the bottle when I opened it and there wasn’t much left to make a head in the glass. Chocolate and toffee-aroma with a hint of vanillia.Fruity flavour with notes of chocolate and toffee. The alcohol gives the finish some extra bite.
2002 bottle ABV 8 % Red-brown colour, rich head. Not so pleasant aroma: sweaty socks and cheese. Fruity and warming flavor. Judging by the aroma this bottle must’ve gone slightly bad.
2004 Bottle ABV 11 % Brown, reddish colour. Rich head. Chocolate and toffee-aroma with fumes of alcohol. Round, soft, rich & warming toffee flavour. The alcohol shows up in the finish.
I think the youngest version was the best!

This is one of the many joys of the Christmas season. The coming of the holiday ales. This is probably my favorite brewer on the planet. But this was my first opportunity to try this particular selection. Sampled from a 25 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was sweet and fruity though it had a bit of an alcohol sting to it. The flavor was sweet, tart and had a noticeable cherry element. The alcohol shows through rather harshly though and that for me was the only real detraction. Otherwise a nice brew.

Sampled at marinaro500’s post-Thanksgiving gathering, provided by wohlfs. Slightly hazy orange-brown body, thin off-white/cream head. Unusual banana/clove yeast nose with breads and caramel. Toasty, sweet, caramely body with brown sugar and plenty of yeast esters, including banana and clove. Kind of a buttered toast finish. Rich and sweet with little alcohol presence.

Bottle - 2002 Vintage - ABV: 8,5% Murky, amber brown body. Small, brownish head. Nose of apples, malts, alcohol. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter flavour. Very warm palate - sirupy viscosity - lightly alcoholic. All in the end a very nice beer, worth the extra money spending for.

2004 botttle. Appearance is a dark burgundy, violet and fuschia colored body, with some dark mahogany and a biig foamy mocha head. Aroma is out of this world. Dark oatmeal stouts, big banana estery foreign stouts, lacto, caramel, toffee, AND DARK CANDI SUGAR. Flavor shows a huge sweetness; cloying, and immensely strong and fatiguing. It’s big, it’s good and it’s too much. So much residual sugar it’s unreal. Sweet to the extreme. It does abate somewaht on the very end, after an hour or so, but it still is a mix of alcohol, strong yeast and boatloads of sugar.

Bottled (0.75l), alc. 10.5% (BB 10/2006)
Dark red portwine-like color with small tanned head. Aroma has anis, licorice, plum, fruitcake and chocolate. Par to flavor: lots of salty licorice. Mouthfeel is (a bit too) carbonated. Alcohol jumps from palate in the finish. Aftertaste is salty and malty. Really interesting and complex brew. (9/4/7/4/16 4.0)
Draught, alc. 11%
Deep clear red, huge creamy brown head. Sweet berries in a nose. Sweet, wineous portwine-like, tasting grapes. Easy to drink and warming, hides ABV well. Totally different than bottled version - but almost as good. (8/5/7/4/15 3.9)

An unclear amber beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma is sweet with lots of raspberries and so is the flavor leading up to a dry end.

Bottle. Sweet, spicy, anisy aroma. Dark chestnut colour, small light-brown head. Flavour is sweet, spicy, anisy, cough-syrup-like. Very complex.

One of the most unique tripels I’ve yet had - burnt copper color, with spicy, musty, earthy aroma - interesting mix of flavors, with peaches, pickled ginger, nutmeg, and a touch of cinnamon - long, mellow, finish that tastes somewhat like christmas cookies - very different for a tripel, but very good.
