Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Cask @ The Cover Bridge Inn, East Witton. Clear dark gold/orange with a small white northern head. Aroma of biscuits and herbal hops. Taste of malts, some lemons, herbs, biscuits and tea. A quite dry finish and rather strong bitterness. Low carbonation. Very balanced. One of the more bitter Bitters I know. Great.

Can, Aldi. Clear amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma of citrus, spices, light bread. Dryish and just approaching watery with light bread, some boiled citrus and firm spicy bitterness. Pretty good - lacks the over-pasteurized feel that used to spoil many packaged bitters.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from the local, big Tesco. Pours clear, dark brown with a creamy, tan cap. Light sweet with decently ashy roast, a little bittersweet cocoa, soft lactic twang, earth. Light in body with massaging carbonation. Semi-sweet finish, further roast, nips of ash and cocoa. Drinks just fine.
