500ml bottle, thanks to Erzengel! Pours a deep purple, large purple-pink head. Light fruity nose, blackcurrant hints. Light, thin and surprisingly watery on the palette, albeit juicy. Some light smoky hints behind some mildly juicy blackcurrants. Some red wine acidity creeping in mid-way through with nutty echoes. Interesting and different for sure.

500 ml bottle. Dark amber, copper color. Small creamy beige head. Dark fruity malt aroma. Slightly smoky notes. Flavor is toasted malt, cocoa and slightly sour. Soft, silky mouthfeel. Easy drinking and flavorful. No evidence of the 10% ABV.

Bottle bought at Liquor Shed.
Pours what looks to be a clear dark red, mahogany, great head of foam and lacing.
Smell is of fruity tart elderberry and some light smoke.
The taste has the elderberry tartness that would be a good addition to the jolly rancher line;) The smoke is there, it cuts a bit of the tartness but not much. There's some noticeable alcohol too, being 8%abv per the label, it wasn't a total surprise.
Pretty full in the mouth, lively carbonation, maybe too lively.
I don't know the history of traditional Dortmunder Alts but if this is one, I reckon that I prefer the Dusseldorf versions.

Red dark brown. Aroma is slight smoky, red berries, a bit toffee. Taste is tart and very tanniny, cocoa, red wine, some chocolate bitterness, sour berries. Very harsh, but with a good fruityness. Some smoke in the finish. Meh.

Birthday bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker; thanks to Anke & family!
Pours clear red/orange with a thinning, off-white head. The aroma contains raspberry, some strawberry, bit of iron, lactic acid, 'yoghurt' or 'sour milk' and yeast. It tastes medium sour and light hoppy/herbal bitter. Shortish, tart finish. Light body, watery texture, flat carbonation. Nice to drink, but nothing more.
