Description

Black with little brown head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, cherry pips, some earthy (forest-y) aroma as well, cedar wood. Taste is surprisingly sweet (amarena sweetness) with some wood and roast bitterness being more present later. Very low carbonation, long finish of roast and wood. Oily mouthfeel, not that perfectly balanced, (early sweetness vs almost aggressive wood and roast later). Still well done.

Bottle care of Dave. It pours black with a thick tan head. The aroma is sweet, milk chocolate powder, candy, toffee, earthy roast and sugar. The taste is smooth, sweet, juicy, sticky, plenty of milk chocolate light alcohol, chewy, twig, horlicks, earthy roast, light burnt notes and alcohol with a short, sweet finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Too sweet and lacking in depth.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to David. Pours deep brown with a dense, frothy beige head. The nose has light roast, milk chocolate, burnt crackers. Medium sweet flavour with more chocolatey malts, burnt wood, dried berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Finishes with light warmth, more cocoa, light musty notes, earth. Not bad.

Bottle from Rewe supermarket in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, consumed, outside Frank (Camper) at Campingplatz Gülser Moselbogen Nr Koblenz, Germany Tuesday 28th June 2016, Black with a light beige head, really soft and smooth in the mouth, almost creamy also. A little bit boozy but this doesn’t really concern me as it is still really drinkable. A touch of cappuccino calms down the roastiness, v.good. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Pours dark from the bottle with a brown head that soon fades. An intensive aroma of roasted malt, red wine, and red currant greets the nose. Unfortunately it also betrays a hint of raw alcohol. The taste has some of the usual roasted notes of a typical stout, but quickly trends sour with a fruity, berry-like tang making itself felt. The finish is dry and bitter; there is a fair dose of hops in this one. Again a faint touch of alcohol is present. This one may have been better with a slightly lower ABV. As it stands the beer is quite good, but not great. The name "Nachtflug" translates to "night flight" and, yes, after too many of these you will embark for the night.
