Description
In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.

In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.

In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

Clear amber, thin pale head. Aroma of freshly mown grass. Dry, malty, spiced. Not sure about this one. Gentian is a disinfectant that I’ve used to clean out people’s wounds in the emergency room.

courtesy of one of our tasting member. Pours golden Aroma / taste, floral and herbal. Love the idea of the unique use of this flower gentian that really brought something new to a beer. Beer was really smooth to sip, leaving a fresh floral/herbal feel almost of mint.

Bottle. Orange/red colour. Big white head. Little haziness. This one smells like some kind of sweet cake with citrus. Nice mild and sweet hoppy flavor. I don´t like the strange bitterness in the aftertaste though. This one reminds me of a "belgian IPA", because of it´s complexity and the not so sticky although hoppy taste,

Amber-red beer; head reduced to coloured rim. A bit of acidity in the nose, quite vinous, wood, acetone evern. Woody, vinous, severe beer with higher alcohols and slightly phenolic. Short lived-hops appear and disappear again. Rather well-bodied, slick and bit burning MF; longlasting aftertaste. Very interesting, curious beer, if on the verge of astringency. Hops come out good initially, but a bit too short.

Small white rim over hazy yellow beer. Spicy, but not overspiced nose, and also a slight chocolate aroma? Again fine spicy taste, this time more coriander-like, but not domination. Light body, and preciously little palate. Doable. Not one you make big searches for, but if you stumble upon it, one to try - only if it is for the gentian.
