Description
In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.
In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.
In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

Bottle: Started out a gusher, poured a black with a huge white head. The aroma is that of sweet tabacco, different but not bad in anyway. Taste is bitter grass front end with a nice smokey finish.

Bottled (BB 04/2010). Deep hazy amber color, huge cloudy beige head and lots of lace. Strong piney and mango-fruity aroma. Quite malty body. Piney hoppy flavor with citrus, resin, finish is grapefruity. Some woody notes in the background and tiny hints of papery yeastyness. Long fruity-hoppy aftertaste. Well-balanced, fruity and tasty IPA. Italians can brew too!

Bottled (BB 04/2010). Deep red-brown, a bit hazy color, small beige head, some lace. Cascade flowery-hoppy aroma. Average maltyness, hops are a bit more subdued than aroma is indicating. Grassy-flowery hoppyness, some piney and citrusy notes. Feels less than 6.4%.

Bottled at Horsens Beerfestival. Hazy amber with a big off-white head. Aroma is fruity, nutty and a bit acidulous. Flavor is sweet malty, citric fruity, nutty, some caramel and a hint of sourness in the finish. Lots of different flavors here, but not necessary in balance.

Handpumped. Nicely roasted aroma, faint hint of urinal. Ah, now I get the tobacco, perhaps the nicotine reminds me of piss. Black colour. Stable frothy light brown head. Sweetish flavour, some sweet liquorice. The tobacco gives a bit of a sour note. The finish is a bit watery. 5 3 3 2 11
Bottle, 6.5%. Roasted aroma, but not as powerful as expected. Black colour. Very big stable rocky dark brown head. The flavour is roasted and smokey. Citric and almost sour finish, from the tobacco, I take it. I am no fan of this tobacco flavour, but it must be said that it gives the beer character and it is not so much as to make it undrinkable at all. 6 3 6 3 14

2012-05-11, bottle at at Danske Ølentusiasters Ølfestival 2012, Copenhagen, 7-4-7-3-15=36
Amber color, hazy, with not much head. Nice malty aroma, sweet, with light spicy and fruity touch (oranges, raisins, light vanilla). Round mouthfeel with low carbonation; sweet caramel flavor, with relatively low bitterness, nice alcohol warmth.
2009-01-04, bottle from Birratrovo, Como, 6-3-7-3-12=31
Hazy color, dark amber to brown; medium head, not persistent. The aroma is malty, light wood, pepper, sourness, mold, vegetables. Strong body, strong caramel flavor, sweetish, nuts, alcohol, wood. Quite strong bitterness. Confused.
