Description
King Brewing Co. was formed in 1994, reviving a brewing tradition in southeastern Michigan that had ceased in the early 1950’s when the last small brewer was forced to close in Pontiac. When we opened, there were only three other breweries operating in the state. Currently, there are more than 70 breweries brewing beer in Michigan.
King Brewing Co. brews and packages all of its beer at our brewery in Pontiac. We seek out the finest ingredients, use traditional methods and brew authentic styles of beer. Our goal has always been a simple one: “ To provide metro Detroit with the freshest, most consistent and genuine beer available.”

We brew a variety of beers through out the year. Some of our products are seasonal. We offer private label brewing services to those interested. Feel free to contact the brewery (248-745-5900) at any time with any questions or suggestions.

Bottle at ABC beer tasting. Poured an amber gold with an off-white head. Aroma consisted of a bit of hops and malts with a sweet edge and some berry notes. Nice well balanced combo of hops and malts and finishes with a malty kick.

@ Michigan Beerfest-on tap-pours a white head and hazy gold color. Aroma is some hops, some light/medium malt. Taste is some hops, some light/medium malt. Easy.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours deep dark dankness with very carefully poured three finger mocha head (Degarth’s pour ended up an eight finger head). The aroma has some teeth, it is timid at all. I get roasted to burnt malts to ash plus a big pulse of Worcestershire sauce – Tabasco – peppered beef jerky. (What!) The taste experience begins with a carbonation assault that causes burnt malts, ash, singed dark chocolate and roasted coffee to explode across my tongue. By midway it gets a tad chalky before mild malt sweetness shows up as the carbonation eruption subsides. It ends with burnt malts, mild ash and roasted coffee. I don’t know where the odd aroma ended up taste wise. I didn’t really notice it.

Stupid sized tan head - BE AWARE (my experience obviously wasn’t the only one) with a chunky brown coloured body. Aroma of metal, raisins, nuts, cardboard and a bit of musty vanilla. Super carbonated mouthful of roasted malt, nuts, honey, caramel and some good oak. Aftertaste still has some carbonation, with a bunch of alcohol and a vanilla flavour that lasts. Overall, a bit too one-sided and mild for the style. Way too much head and over-bottle conditioned! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 14-January-2008.

I didn’t think this was terrible, but it certainly seems pointless. A rather weak, bland somewhat hoppy beer (I couldn’t pin the style, either) with little malt character. A bit floral, a bit citrusy, a bit watery. I believe there was even a release party for this beer in Clarkston. Why?

Bottle from Ughsmash, I believe - fizzy dark brown pour with a small tan ring (looks like a glass of cola) - overly burnt/roasty aroma, smelling like old cigarette butts in a wet ashtray, with some background malt sweetness that in no way makes up for it - very thin body and flavor (9% my ass) - not very apparent coffee flavor, but it is bitter and roasty - flavors of tobacco and wet, charred wood - some sweetness that can’t even really be properly identified as "malty" lurking in the background - long finish of wet ash - just not very good.

Hazy orange-brown body, medium off-white head. Light bready aroma with subtle notes of cherry. Biscuity body; a concentrated effort reveals tart cherry, but no sweetness. A boring beer with boring cherry flavoring.

Label with a Greenfield Village theme. Pale straw body, thick off-white head. Aroma and flavor grassy, crackery. Little character, but smooth, with biscuit, bread, and grassy hops. Crisp with no tanginess.

Murky orange-brown body, thin off-white head. Earthy aroma, bready, with dull caramels. Bready body, subdued sweetness, with grassy, earthy hops, though faded. Dull, lifeless, and boring. Not worth the calories, so the rest will be greeted with pipe while I pour a Nosferatu.

King Weissbier ("Bavarian Style Wheat Beer"). I assume this rating belongs here. Hazy orange-yellow body, thin off-white head. Banana, clove, and bubblegum aroma. Typical hefeweizen flavors of banana and clove, pretty potent on those notes, with a slightly tart, spicy finish. Creamy, somewhat heavy-feeling body. A bit undercarbonated. Decent.
