Description
In 1794, Dorset rope and net makers, the Gundry family, built the Old Brewery on the banks of the River Brit in Bridport. Since then, there’s been non-stop brewing on this site. In the late 19th century, two Palmers brothers – John Cleeves and Robert Henry – bought the brewery and gave it their names: JC & RH Palmer. Today, their great grandsons, John and Cleeves Palmer, work in the company. As Palmers Brewery, it remains among the best of small independent brewers.

Bottle @ Denmark/Norway Tasting @ Ulfborg 2011. Courtesy of Fonefan. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Buiscuit and citrus. A bit of dust. Medium bodied. Dry and short bitter end.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2010, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, caramel, burnt toffee, burnt caramel, light roasted. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, burnt notes, nutty notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20100805]

Cask@GBBF2010. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruity, nectary, tropical fruity juicy along with some mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is fruits, toffee, nectar and some grass. Pretty dry and bitter finish.

From cask. Pours cloudy dark orange with a small and lacing white head. Aroma is caramelish and butter. Rather malty flavoured with a distinct butterish note. Sweet and caramelish finish. Ends dry.

13th July 2010. Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear amber beer with a little suddy white head. Some sulfur on the nose! Light semi dry palate. Fresh dry fruit with some toffee malt. Tastes okay but the nose is very offputting!

Cask (Wellington Arms, Southampton) - Amber in colour. Malty aroma with hints of dried fruit and caramel. Malty and fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, nuts and toffee.

275 ml bottle at 3.2% ABV, bought at the brewery. Deep gold with no head and slight carbonation. Light, malty aroma. Easy drinking, with a touch of sweet cereal malts and bitter finish. Ok in an old-fashioned way.

From notes. Handpump. Clear dark brown, small beige head, medium lacing. Aroma of prunes and dates, Taste is watery, some fruit, but some metal as well. Average.

Cask (Wellington Arms, Southampton) - Copper coloured. Fruity aroma with dried fruit and caramel. Malty, fruity and slightly hoppy taste with dried fruit and caramel.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty butterscotch aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter finish.
