About
1328 wurde die Brauerei erstmals namentlich genannt. In 1803 mussten im Rahmen der Säkularisation die Mönche das Kloster verlassen und es wurde aufgelöst. Nur die Klosterbrauerei wurde anfänglich unter staatlicher und später unter privater Führung weitergeführt.

1829 erwarben Anton und Therese Wagner, eine Brauerfamilie aus Attaching bei Freising, die Sudstätte. Seitdem ist die Brauerei eine bürgerliche Privatbrauerei in Familienbesitz. Therese Wagner erwarb in 1857 einen Lagerkeller an der Landsberger Straße. Auf dieses Gelände wurden später die gesamten Produktionsanlagen verlegt. Edith Haberland-Wagner, die letzte Verwandte mit dem Nachnamen Wagner und Haupteigentümerin der Brauerei, vermacht in 1996 ihre Anteile der von ihr gegründeten Edith-Haberland-Wagner-Stiftung. Nun hält die Stiftung etwas über 50 Prozent der Augustiner Brauerei.

A dark amber beer with a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, and the flavor is very sweet malty, again with primary notes of caramel, but the body is thin.

Yellow-brown head, disappearing fast to rim; deep red-brown beer. Nose: all kinds of sweet & dark things: molasses, dark sweet bread, chocolate, dark malts, moccha. Taste is cigarette ashes envelopping some faint-sweet bread, touch of chocolate and lots of dark, far from all-sweet malts. Hints of hops, even. Very evenly balanced. Medium bodied. Aftertaste seems sweeter again, hints of caramel. Nice Dunkel, and a Godsend compared to their Oktoberfest disaster. Thanks for the supply, joss.

Very pale clear gold; very white, fluffy head. Creamy, faint malty nose. Lightly perfumed, but rather nondescript overtone. Grassy, rainwater, sweet pale malts, maybe a bit (white) bready. Dull to an extreme. Grist slickness, cobwebby feeling, watery. Do they really serve this tasteless stuff on the O’Fest? Let me remember to keep away from this non-event.

Bright golden beer; just-yellow head, fast gone. Dry, warm summergrain in the nose, followed by a lot of very grassy, herbal notes. Dry, hop-bitterish pils, with a little background reserve of maltsugar. Quite balanced, but not very exciting. Light but not thin. Aftertaste yields good hopbitterness. Decent Pilsner, quite OK & refreshing.

(bottle) Deep golden colour with a foamy medium head with bubbles. Floral and slightly toasted malty nose. Moderate sweet malty taste. Quite balanced dry, slightly bitter and soft malty finish. The alcohol comes up in the finish, but is quite warming. Okay Festbier, but not a great one.

On tap from the wooden barrel at the Augustiner-Keller in Munich: golden coloured, firm white, very creamy head, lacing; malty nose, traces of caramel; very soft and malty, a bit nutty taste; finishes more dry and slightly bitter; medium bodied; very well rounded, extremely well quaffable; moreish......

Live at the Augustiner-Bräustuben in Munich, served in a bottle: pale golden coloured, fluffy, nicely lacing white head; shy traces of grassy hoppiness in the nose, some dough; light bitter-sweet flavour and a light grassy and malty finish; easily drinkable, a bit too light-bodied for a beer of 5,6% ABV ! Re-Rate (bottle sponsored by Joss!) Pale golden, quite stable mid-sized white head; distinctive floral-hoppy aroma, covering some grainy sweetness; distinctive, but mild bitter-sweet flavour; aromatic hoppiness in the short, sweet finish. A fine and pleasant, really Bohemian Pils ! Draught at "Augustiner an der Frauenkirche", Dresden, 06/10: 3D "bohemian" hop profile, very smooth, solid sweet-bitter flavour, not too dry. Very moreish and very, very good!!!!

Würzig und hopfig, meiner Meinung schon zu hopfig, schmeckt dieses Festbier. CO2-arm ist es logischerweise, man soll es ja auf dem Oktoberfest schnell runterbekommen und ein neues Bier ordern. Wie schon beschrieben ist es im Nachgeschmack ein wenig klebrig. Das Bier geht in Ordnung. Test vom 2.10.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,9,12,8,10,10
