Description
Averbode Abbey beer is a tribute to history: from the 14th to the early 20th century the abbey was already actively engaged in brewing. For the production of the ‘new’ abbey beer the abbey opted for Brouwerij Huyghe, which also has a rich history of its own.
However, there are also similarities. Respect for the environment and society play a central role in the brewery. Indeed, Brouwerij Huyghe is the only brewery in Belgium to produce the Mongoza-beer that has received the fair trade, gluten free and organic label. It also actively invests in a smaller footprint and social employment.

Bottle from Mitra Bunnik, BB 06/2017, large sample. Hazy golden color, big rocky white head. Aroma of grainy malt, slight peppery yeast, bit flowery hops, slight grassy, soft fruity. Quite dry in taste, slight sweet cookie notes, soft bitterness. Very high on carbonation, showing large bubbles, giving almost immediate burps. I prefer a bit lower on carb, although it does fit the style for the largest part.

Bottled 330ml. -from Svijet Piva Zagreb. Clear yellow coloured, big airy white head that went away fast, mild dusty spicy nose. Fizzy as hell. Malty, yeasty, light herbal and mild spicy with notes of alcohol and moderate dry finish. There’s much better BSA around.

Bottle from Delhaize in Brugge, Belgium. A hazy yellow/golden coloured pour with a huge white head on top. Fruity, yeasty aroma. Tastes yeasty, fruity, spice, slightly metallic, typical Belgian, not bad.

Mild gusher. Light haze on this yellow - gold beer, bubbly off white head. Airy crispy palate, semi dry. Light sweet floralness. Mild herby streak. Trace of something fruity and a pinch of spice. Light finish. Not bad.

0,33 bottle shared by Pepa from Belgium in Peje/Pec-Kosovo, thank you Pepa. Pours filtered clear yellow/golden color, medium white foamy head which lowers pretty fast leaving traces on the surface and the verge. Nose: spices attack, orange like yeasty aroma. Mouth: highly carbonated, peppery, butter background, heavy cloying sweetness. "Another" nice Belgian Strong Ale.

Keg at ’T Brugsch Bieratelier, Bruges, Belgium, Saturday 18th October 2014. Pours sparkling gold with white head. Clean, a touch minerally, with a bitter edge. A new beer by all accounts. There is a little hoppy edgey bite, not much sweetness, weirdly it has a lagery feel to it. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Bottle, 7.5%. Citric aroma. Almost clear shiny yellow colour. Very big stable white head. The flavour is yeasty and sweet with some hay and OK rough bitterness. Sounds a little dull, but is not bad.
