Description
Used to be a client brewer till 2021 brewing circus-themed beers.

In 2021, the brewery moved to the old warehouse at the entrance along Blokkellestraat, which was a workshop of the electricity factory with supply via the railway line that ran next to it. Thanks to the Circus Brewery, it is once again bustling with activity.

Up to 2500 hl of barley water per year, five 1000 l lager and fermentation tanks, two of 2000 l and two of 500 l. The director himself cannot master that much and that is why our beer is also available to you, loyal fans and bon vivants. B'brew came from exotic Roeselare to put together this installation and did an excellent job.

All Circus Brewery classics are brewed here, but other brewers can also lose their beer egg here. A 500 liter installation like ours, which is professionally equipped, is perfect for trying out new recipes by larger breweries or by the hobbyist.

Original rating from 2018 ( entered 2019 ) Pours dark brown, smell is diacetyl. Taste is full, diacetyl, sweet, roasty. Way to buttery. I talked to the owner of the brand, and he refused to aknowledge there was an issue with this beer.... Wat een circus is me dat zeg... One to avoid ! 3.8/10

Re-rate 2020 : didn't get the diacetyl this time, at all. Did perceive something smokey ( turns out there is indeed some smoked malts used ) , which kinda turned the beer (lightly) metallic / metallic-like. Bready, mild bitterness. Still below average to me, but not nearly as problematic as before . rated 6.5/10 this instance.

22/08/2019 @home - 33cl bottle from Willems & Zoon, Grobbendonk. Clear golden, medium pearly white head. Nose is banana, bit herbs, yeast. Taste is lots of banana, bit banana peel, bit lavender, spicy ending, too much spice.

A éviter.

Bottle bought at Zythos Bierfestival 2019. Pours hazy dark brown with a thin, lasting, foamy, tan head. Aroma of cigar ash, tobacco, smoke, roasted chestnut, earth, chicory, fondant, coffee (pad). Taste is light malty sweet, some chocolate, subtle dark fruits (raisin, fig), quite smoky-umami, leading to a roasted bitter core of tobacco, coffee & nuts. Dryish, earthy hoppy finish, lingering toast, ash, smoke, more bittering. Medium body, slick/watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Slightly underwhelming all in all, but has a nice Baltic Porter-ish character indeed.

28 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, 77ships & tderoeck! Hazy pale golden, lasting, thin, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of lavender, baby’s bath foam, dried banana, rosemary, chloride, industrial honey, white bread, ‘wet’ herbs. Taste is medium sugary sweet, offering ripe banana, apple, honey & white bread, developing a weird bitter mix of herbs, wet lavender, somewhat soapy & sourish. Dryish, faintly floral hoppy finish, more white sugar, banana & slightly disturbing white rum-like alcohol. Light to medium body, slick texture, soft to flat carbonation. Weird overall, it amazes me how some brewers seem to think that their product is up to scratch for distribution.
