Description
Used to be a client brewer till 2021 brewing circus-themed beers.
In 2021, the brewery moved to the old warehouse at the entrance along Blokkellestraat, which was a workshop of the electricity factory with supply via the railway line that ran next to it. Thanks to the Circus Brewery, it is once again bustling with activity.
Up to 2500 hl of barley water per year, five 1000 l lager and fermentation tanks, two of 2000 l and two of 500 l. The director himself cannot master that much and that is why our beer is also available to you, loyal fans and bon vivants. B'brew came from exotic Roeselare to put together this installation and did an excellent job.
All Circus Brewery classics are brewed here, but other brewers can also lose their beer egg here. A 500 liter installation like ours, which is professionally equipped, is perfect for trying out new recipes by larger breweries or by the hobbyist.

Original rating (2016) Pours very clear blonde, good to big white head. Smell is bit grainy, rather sharp, some malt aspects. Taste is very sharp, bitter, intensely so. Rather dry, some malty aspects as well. almost like a saison-like character underneath. to high carbonation for me , over an average mouthfeel. For what it is, it’s a pretty nice beer. but it’s a beer very much in the style of taras boulba, and I’m not sure it can compete with that just yet. Still, if this is more easy accessible for you, or you like TB and wanna try something in those lines, this could be a very nice one to try ! 7/10
Re-rate (2020) . Whilst the other 2 basebeers - in my opinion - had improved, this one fell down a bit. Phenolic, with hints of DMS ( at least in the scent, not so much in the taste ) . MF is dry and a bit thin, no real estery flavors, but a MF like an overly ester-forward ale. Mild carbo. rated 6.5 this time.
New total score : 6.7

2015 review : Pours bit unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is spiced, very herbal. Taste is bitter, with a strong, hay-like spiced character. Not sure what spices are used, but its very recognizable. i am thinking of lemongrass powder, but am not sure about this. Also has a peppery note (cardamon?) I get that people want to use spices, but It would be fun to have some balance in this as well... 5/10
Re-rate 2020 : Again / Still way to spicy. Toilet cleaner comes to mind, as well as pot-pourri . Mild estery backbone, creating a slick body, like it has been fermented to warm ( but it might just be the spices ? ) . High carb, of course. Rated 5.5/10 this time.
Averageing this to 5.3

Bouteille 33cl.

Courtesy of tderoeck. Apparently a commissioned beer brewed at Gulden Spoor. Pours a deep orange colour with tons of dead yeast chunks at the bottom; stable and lacing, moussy, frothy, yellowish white head. Unusual and, frankly, weird aroma of cooked cauliflower, fried salmon, ’old’ tomato sauce, yoghurt, ’soft’ paprika, venison (hare!), old cardboard, wilted flowers, touch of lemon zest, passion fruit, bell pepper soup, sourdough, bisque d’homard, fish broth, fish sauce, cooked eggplant, mango. Taste begins with an unusual kind of salty sweetness, hints of exotic fruits, honeyish with medium carb, smooth caramelly but clearly oxidized maltiness, some cardboard, with a drying alcohol effect setting in quickly, adding insult to injury; quite harsh finish of wodka-like, astringent alcohol, lingering caramelly malts and retronasal presence of baked eggs; hops are only noticeable in the background. A tingling feeling of incompleteness (not to mention alcohol wryness!) is the last thing I get from this. I guess this ale, despite being 8.5% ABV, is to be consumed only in its youth... A shortcoming if you ask me, apart from the tomato and bell pepper smell which I can hardly call inviting. Dead yeast chunks rule here - and they are not my friends. There is a lot of work to be done here, I think...
