On tap at Smuttynose - Hayseed, pours a cloudy dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out dark fruits, toasted nuts, some caramel and bready malt. Flavour is bold, with rich caramel, bready malt and a touch of brown sugar. Loaded with caramel, with lots of brown sugar and some alcohol. Complex and well-designed. Excellent.

On tap at Smuttynose - Hayseed, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out rich roasted caramels, with dark fruits and bready toffee. Flavour is along the same lines, with toffee, bready malt and dried caramel. Boozy and English malty on the finish. Nice stuff.

On tap at Smuttynose - Hayseed, pours a jet black with a small brown head. Aroma brings out lots of oak chips, with some cocoa nibs, and light roast. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of chocolate cookies, some fudge and oak chips. Complex and well-rounded. A bit sludgy / chalky, but pretty nice.

On tap at Smuttynose, pours a cloudy yellowish blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out floral hops, light dankness and an astringent hoppy bitterness. Flavour is along the same lines, with fresh floral hops and a crisp biscuity malt base. Fresh and floral, but not a whole lot of depth. Okay.

On tap at Smuttynose, pours a hazy blonde with a medium white head. Aroma brings out lots of fresh straw and crisp crackery malt. Flavour is very fresh, with fresh straw, grassy notes and crisp crackery malt. Clean and fresh, with a nice grassy crispness on the finish. Solid.

On cask at Smuttynose, pours a clear pale dull yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of fresh tart cherries, with plenty of lacto. Flavour is quite tart, with subdued cherries and plenty of lacto. Very tart and ascorbic. Not great.

Rating # 3,300. 22 ounce bottle. Brown black pour. Small dens creamy brown cap. Rich roasty malt nose hints at dark dried fruits and port wine. First sip brings notes of dried fruit, coffee, Worcestershire Sauce and burnt sugar. Complex and flavorful. Lots of body, though smooth and drinkable. Notes of dark chocolate and prunes in finish. Some warming alcohol as well. Delicious!
