Mommsen-Eck (Haus der 100 Biere) has been a watering hole of mine since before the Berlin Wall came down back in 1989: every trip back to the city sees me re-visit the place for food and beers. BA however has changed what I drink in here, I’m always looking for something on the menu I’ve not had before instead of having something I know, hence the 0.330 ml bottle of Licorne Elsass was ordered during one of my evenings in here during Jan 2012. Poured a slightly hazy pale blond colour; tight white head that gave some impressive lacing for a Lager. Mini floral hop aroma; gets my regular score of 3 for an almost odourless Lager/Pilsner/Helles. The taste was refreshing and this blend of hops and malts gave it a better character than most French Lagers I’ve had over the years, this had an actual taste. Mild rather than tangy or sharp, malts lead initially in the flavours, the hops coming to give the beer a gentle bitterness towards the end of each sip.

Bottle 25 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a clear amber with an off-white head. Sticky sweet caramel and cardboard in the nose. Medium body, very sweet caramel, caramel and cardboard. Hardly any bitterness. A sticky, primitive Lager. 300312

Bottle @ FOneFan. Clear amber/brown with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel and fruit. Flavour is malt, caramel, medium sweet, hops, hay and little bitter.

Botlle @ Fonefan tasting. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are malt, caramel, nuts and hops. Medium carbonation.

The Beer Store, Toronto ($cheap): Pours a reddish colour. Aroma is of malt liquor, so you get all the motor oil and alcohol swab smell together. Ridiculously sweet. My first sip made me gag. It is really awful. I have had quite a few malt liquors in the past few days and this was easily the most disgusting. I am against this beer.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with brown head. The aroma has notes caramel and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes malt, caramel, and straw, leading to a dry finish.

33 cl bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty and light brwadish. Sweet toasted and caramelish malty. Light fruity note. Sweet and toasted malty finish, light mellow yeasty note.
