Description
It all started in 1986. Sure, many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, but much has stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends.
In July 2014, Harpoon became an employee owned company, with 48% of the company given to employees through the establishment of an ESOP. An E-what? ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It is a mechanism by which a company contributes to its employees’ retirement by allocating shares to them which it repurchases…..yadda, yadda, yadda… Here’s what it means: we are employee owned, we are an independent craft brewer, and you bet we’re damn proud of it.
In 2024, Harpoon and Smuttynose merged, forming Barrel One Collective.

Very dark brown with head that fizzes out quickly. Aroma of intense coffee and nuts. Obviously boozy. Fine, tight carbonation. Loads of coffee bitterness. Very little softness or sweetness offered by the barrel. Rough around the edges.

For some reason I thought this was an IPA with orange… UFO Florida Citrus Wheat beer with Florida oranges 5% Another sale purchase of a beer and brewery I know nothing about. Nice orange gold color with very little foam but a big Florida orange aroma on cracking open the can. Medium bodied it starts of juicy sweet fresh oranges and ends with a bit of a citrusy tang. I bought this to enjoy in a sunny day and it certainly fits that bill. This is a year-round beer but I feel it’s definitely best enjoyed in summer.

Optisch einwandfrei, ordentlich Perlung. In der Nase deutlich Blaubeeren. Im Trunk auch sehr dominant und süß. Schmeck wie Hubba Bubba. Erinnert erst spät an Bier. Leider nicht mein Fall.

355ml can at home on 27th January 2024. Hazy orange, fast fading head. Oranges and other citrus fruits abound in the aroma and taste, alcohol level suits it, not too strong, not too weak. Definitely one of the better Harpoon beers I've had ( this being my 10th).

cheeky 330ml can shared by haddock on the train to Birmingham for a discovery of the city's lesser known charms. Misty yellow pour, white head. Pleasant orangey whiff with a generally good citrussy orangey character to taste, nicely sweet, nicely light, nicely drinkable 🍊🍊🍊
