Description
It all started in 1986. Sure, many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, but much has stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends.

In July 2014, Harpoon became an employee owned company, with 48% of the company given to employees through the establishment of an ESOP. An E-what? ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It is a mechanism by which a company contributes to its employees’ retirement by allocating shares to them which it repurchases…..yadda, yadda, yadda… Here’s what it means: we are employee owned, we are an independent craft brewer, and you bet we’re damn proud of it.

In 2024, Harpoon and Smuttynose merged, forming Barrel One Collective.

Canned 7/18/22, drunk 11/3/22. Moderately hazy, pumpkin-amber. Large, well-retained, buttermilk colored head. Faint pumpkin and wheat, I guess? Cinnamon, of course. Not sugary, at least and no lactose. Watery, thin, wheaty and with minimal, vague pumpkin flavor and too much cinnamon. Not too sweet, at least. Vapid, thin, meh.

Bottled 9/19/22, drunk 11/3/22. Lightly hazy, pumpkin-bronze-amber. Small, pumpkin-colored, dark beige head receding immediately to spotty cover/ring. There's the cinnamon, pumpkin and lactose, but where's the coffee? Smells sweet even from the nose. Wow, that's thin. For all that sweetness and potential richness in the nose, it sure is watery and bland, with lactose and cinnamon. Still not convinced there's coffee in this. It's not absolutely disgusting or anything, just thin, lactose and cinnamon-heavy. Can't find much of a reason to drink this.

Pours slightly hazy gold with a large lasting head.Nose shows pine, resinous hops, lots of grapefruit. Clean malt behind.Flavours include more pine and grapefruit, citrus pith, and very clean malt. Finishes quite dry and refreshing.

Pint can from the Wine Shop Charleston, 9/15/22. Hazy orange, large tan head, good retention. Aroma of orange and mango. Spritzy, almost smells like a seltzer. Taste is orange, mango. No bitterness, slick. Light. Again, kinda like a seltzer. Weak overall. Okay.
