Nice amber colour with a slightly off-white head which starts nice, but fades with time. Smells of hops, malt and roasted barley dominate the smell...but there is some slight sugar and sweetness in the smell. The taste is a combination of all the flavours detected in the aroma, but at a more subtle level. The second tastes leaves even more to be desired, and shows the watery characteristics in the beer. The consistency of the beer is actually medium-bodied, but I would classify the taste as 'light-bodied' :-). I have two other beers by this brewery in my possession, but by the scores...they should be even worse than this beer...and i'm not really looking forward to that. Not a bad beer, but not a great one...I wouldn't reccomend buying this beer. I purchased this as a 12 ounce bottle from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Amber ale with a caramelly accent. I have to say, after Double Bag, I really don't want these guys to shoot for smooth.

A very interesting and unique beer. A German style Stickebier (secret beer) which means its an alt that is not advertised as being available, and thus only regular customers who visit the brewpub would know about it (however, now that its bottled, its not exactly a secret anymore). This beer is also a great example of matching the right glass to the beer. I first had this in a wide mouthed glass, and I was hit full force by overpowering aromatics and strong alcoholic and malty sweetness, with weird bubblegum and nutty overtones. However, when I switched to a heavy straight walled, oversized German mug, this became a pure pleasure. Still sweet, it was restrained with nutty and caramel notes permeating the aroma and flavor. Smooth bordering on heavy body. Large creamy head - caramel brown color. This sort of beer is a true rarity among US brewers.

Yes, I understand I probably had that beer on its best day the first time around. Sampled on what was obviously a more ordinary day, itโs a slightly coppery amber colour. The aroma is malty, somewhat brassy with a hint of earthiness. Flavour has a lot of bitterness - woody - and dashes of caramel and breadcrusty malts. The flavours are definitely not as bright as previous and the beer simply feels less alive as a consequence. Alcohol hits late, as does a little brown sugar sweetness. Not a bad beer, certainly respectable amongst the overall alt/amber field, but not a worldbeater either. That was pretty much expected, though, as that first experience was so sublime. Ar 6 Ap 3 F 7 P 3 O 14 = 3.3 Rating shown is aggregate of the two.
Deep amber; rich aroma with loads of malt, almonds, cashews, and hints of maple & bourbon; Huge malt palate - but with pleasing bitterness underneath flavours of plum, pear, rich caramel/toffee and earthy, toasted malts, mesquite smoke, more bourbon. Finishes both sweet and earthy. Very complex. The best alt since Im Fuchschen. Ar 9 Ap 4 Fl 10 P 4 O 18 = 4.5
