Bottle thanks to Benny H. Massive gusher! It pours murky deep golden - amber with a medium off-white head. The aroma is rich smoked maltage, tangy, meaty, tinned pineapple, definite smoked paprika and earth. The taste is smooth, light bitterness, smoked malts, quite mellow, spice, red pepper, brown bread, pineapple chunk and spice with a dry finish. Medium body and high, foamy carbonation. Bonkers stuff. I don’t mind it that much actually. Unique.

Bottled. A black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, soy sauce, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol, and a bit of bread, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Bottle from the Bow Bar, Edinburgh. Dark black with a purplish tinge. Some lovely beige/tan head on top. Smells like many of the component parts - I get the tonic wine and smoke very strongly, along with herb garden (lavender and sage?), blackberry and a heady dose of liquorice. Taste is sweet and quite fruity but there’s a tinge of bitterness in the finish. Warming for sure but it doesn’t taste 10%. While I like this, I mean I really like this, I wouldn’t have minded a slight toning down of the much-maligned tonic wine.
