Description
Mordue Brewery built up a local strong and loyal customer base which saw demand require no less than 3 expansions of brewery, from the original West Chirton site to a huge brewery in the Tyne Tunnel estate. This new range of beers gained both local and national awards. Mordue ceased brewing on 6th June 2019 and subsequently the brew equipment was auctioned.

However later in 2019 the Mordue brand was relaunched by the Blue Brewing Co. a gypsy brewery which is owned by a group of North Easterners with a wide background of skills who came together, not only to keep the Mordue beers alive but also for their shared passion for Craft Beer.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Clear pale yellowy gold with a negligible white head and a prickly fizz. Thin body. Sharp citrus on the nose promised much, but it then delivered soap in the mouth. Cardboard comes through behind. Imagine cardboard plates washed up with lemon washing up liquid and not properly rinsed off. That’s this beer. Couldn’t finish it.

Lemony wheat ale which is refreshing and clean. Rather herbal. Not amazing but good for a swift half.

Cask handpull at Muggletons Maidstone Jdw . Clear pale gold lasting white head. Quite an interesting wheat beer reminds me of Oakham White Dwarf. Some hop some interest from the wheat. Bit watery.

Cask at the Tilly Shilling (JDW), Farnborough. Pale amber with a thin white head; lemon aroma; fresh lemony citrus taste with a sweet grainy body; very straightforward and very drinkable. Probably best drunk out of doors on a sunny summer’s day, rather than at a beer festival in chilly March.

Cask @ Turls Green, Bradford. Yellow-blonde with a small head. Has a malty-citrus character rather than anything ’wheat’.
