After many years of brewing and the many awards that have adorned Haymarket Beer, Peter L. Crowley understands a thing or two of what makes a great beer. We named our company – Haymarket Beer Company – in honor of those ideas and the people who took pride in them and worked hard to protect them. (That’s a great story, by the way, and you should read more about it.)
We’ve built Haymarket out of everyday people – office workers and school teachers, stonemasons and police officers, plumbers and postal workers – with one promise: making great beer for great beer drinkers. It means that even as we grow, that we never lose sight of what got us where we are today – each other.
Forgive us for getting mushy – this kind of stuff doesn’t come out well through a computer screen. Come and see us the next time you’re in town. We’ll show you what we mean.

GABF 2013. Pours a black appearance with a thin brown head. Really piney, spicy hoppy, dark chocolate, grapefruity aroma. A touch burnt chocolate malty flavor that is fairly roasty with a hint of smoke and pine.

GABF 2013. Pours a hazy yellow-orange appearance with no head (first 1/5 appearance I’ve dropped in a long time but it looked plain bad). Caramel, plum, bourbon in the nose. Pretty fucken smooth flavor despite being 12.5 on the booster scale - lots of bourbon, caramel, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, and wood. A bit sweet but overall a chinchillin beer.

Tap at the Brewpub, Chicago. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken white head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is grassy hop from the Motueka. The flavour is strong bitter with a spicy hop big liqourice bitter palate with a long bitter finish. It’s an acquired taste and I was slowly beginning to acquire it!

Tap at the Brewpub, Chicago. Poured a hazy dark amber with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet malt and dry bread/biscuit. The flavour is medium bitter with a smooth big malt, sweet, weak liqourice palate. A different take on an IPA that has some unusual flavours but it works for me.

Tap at the Brewpub, Chicago. Poured a hazy reddish amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is of yeast and weak cherry. The flavour is weak sweet with a tart slightly acid cherry yeast palate. Cherry lovers will love this but the cherry isn’t overpowering.

Tap at the Brewpub, Chicago. Poured a hazy light amber with no head and no life at all. The aroma is unsurprisingly melon and yeast. The flavour is weak sour melon with a yeast acid melon palate and a smooth melon finish. It’s melon juice with alcohol but rather refreshing all the same. I wish the lucky couple and long and happy life together!

Tap at the Brewpub, Chicago. Poured a clear light amber with a thin white head and lots of lace. The aroma is stale malt. The flavour is medium strong bitter with a malt liqourice hoppy palate and a nice long bitter finish. As far as Pilsners go, this one has flavour and isn’t so bad.
