Description
Blue Moon is known for its Belgian-Style Wheat Ale which was created in 1995 by Keith Villa, a brewer at the Sandlot Brewery at Coors Field, Denver. It was originally brewed in the Coors brewery in Golden, Colorado. In the summer of 2016 a new state-of-the-art brewery was opened in Denver’s RiNo District. Since then we have been brewing fan favorites (old and new), and experimenting with new and unique ingredients on our pilot brewing system.

Bottle poures a clear medium chestnut with a quick sandy head and lots of thick persistant lacing. Lightly toasted pale malt aroma. Watery light and sweet woody flavor. Small hop bite but overall unimpressive.

Well it looks pretty nice, a deep reddish amber color with a foaming head leaving a modest lace although I might have expected to see some yeast. The aroma however, is a tad funky (but not in the good way). Musty orange peels, vaguely vegetal and an indistinct spicing. Strongly caramelized sweetness upfront, but gives way to a semi-dry vegetal finish. Slick palate. Not much true Belgian character despite being labeled an abbey ale.

12 oz bottle; Nose is very light pumpkin and spicewith some grainy lager notes; copper with a medium beige head; flavor is a bit of tartness, light pumpkin, and very light spices. I was hoping they made a mistake and brewed a decent pumkin ale!

bottle - Pours clear amber with a medium sized head. The aroma is pumpkin and malt. The flavor has some caramel malt, the pumpkin of course, and a little spice. It’s light bodied and sweet. I would have liked it to have some more flavor. Not bad.

Barely detectable aroma of mushrooms. Amber color, medium off white head, very clear. Tasteless and watery. An impression of smoke, but that may be my imagination. The only good thing I can say is that since I don’t like Pumpkin ales, this had no pumpkin flavor.

Slightly darker than a pale yellow american beer with an orange hue. Foamy head even when gently poured. Medium low carbonation that turns watery in the mouth. Aroma is laid back with hints of odd veggie spice. Mild industrial bitterness begins to build on the back of the throat toward the finish. That bitterness morphs into a medium mild alky malt trait.

Bottle. Pours a copper amber color with a bubbly off white thick frothy head. The aroma is off course pumpkin and very spicy on the nose. Nice lacing on this one. The taste is malty and not as much of a pumpkin flavor as you would expect with a spicy finish. This was nowhere near as good as the regular belgian blue moon.

draft - Aroma is of wheat and mild spice. The flavor is crisp wheat with a mild lime component and some coriander. It’s too thin, but still a refreshing brew for the warmer months.

Blue moon honey summer ale is filtered. No gunk on the bottom of this 12 oz twist off cap brown bottle. Slightly hazy but is nearly the appearance of ubiquitous pale yellow American lager. Steady streams of visual carbonation arising. Thin white head and a girdle. The clean mild aroma is no indication of the honey impact that is lurking in the first sip, not overwhelmingly syrupy sweet but certainly honey flavors. Some bitterness that cannot be assigned to hops or malts but it is present and diligent. Not much wheatiness n the taste, more like mild lager perhaps. Good creamy carbonation, above average in tingliness. Odd how the honey impact fades as you near the bottom of the glass. After I saw the label, I’m not really sure which blue moon variety I tasted previously. Not quite as good as Samuel Adams Hefeweizen or Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen but on par with other wheat beer that have some medium bitterness. Probably better than JW Dundees.
