Draft at the taproom - not sure if this is the right place to put this, but the menu states this is the gold medal winning batch - moderately hazy gold - nose is beautiful - briny, funky, oaky, lots of complex, cheesy bugginess, with some underlying bright fruitiness - it really smells fantastic - nice prickly acidity in the mouth - bone dry - tart but not overpoweringly sour, with a nice blend of lactic and acetic tartness - tons of oak, cheesy funk, aged earthy hop character, bright white wine grape must qualities - finish leaves lingering oak and mellowing acid - it’s damn good.

Crooked Bottle, 0.375l. Aroma of barnyard, mild brett, cereals, white wine and passion fruit. Pours cloudy golden orange color with thin quickly diminishing off-white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts tart citrusy with passion fruit note, following is grainy, funky and vinous, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is mild grassy bitter. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Very well rounded by the years…

Can that actually says "NEW west coast style IPA" at home. A bit unclear yellow to light orange color, medium sized white head. Aroma is malts, nicely hoppy, but also a light unsettling hint of green unripe hoppiness. I get that in the flavor too. U b ripe, too young hops. Decently bitter, decent malty base, decently hoppy, but that underlying hint of unripe green too young hops doesn't go away. Pity, I hold crooked stave in very high regard and this is -imo- not up to their standards.

04.10.2024, 0,375l bottle (2015 vintage) @ home:
Soft gusher, huge bubbly-creamy longlasting head, hazy orangy color. Aroma is slightly dry funky floral, brett, leafs, hay, cirus peel, chalk, old lawn, grassy hops, light malts, flowers. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish floral, brett, flowers, leafs, citrus peel, chalk, light malts, bark, grassy hops, alcohol, pine needles. Longlasting harsh bitterness, dry funky floral mouthfeel. Fair enough. Too much sediments in the bottle I think...

12 ounce at the taproom - black pour with a thin ring of tan lace - nose of cinnamon, espresso, chocolate, tamarind - medium to full body - bittersweet flavor of bakers chocolate, coffee, slight umami, slight red wine - cinnamon arrives just as the spiciness from the peppers starts to emerge - the beer is not super spicy, but the peppers certainly make their presence known and compliment the cinnamon well - none of the vegetal flavor you often get in pepper beers - nicely done.
