Tap at Crooked Stave - black pour with a soapy lace -nose has a punch of acetone at first, then some alcohol, brandy, acetaldehyde, moderate oak -flavor is medium dry and sharply acidic -acetic notes -brandy notes are sharp and do not blend well with the other notes of the beer -finish of harsh oak and cheap red wine -a huge disappointment, especially since the bourbon version was so good.

Tasted @ Crooked Stave during Zwanze Day 2012. Pours a deep reddish brown appearance with a head that disappears very quickly. Leathery, plum, woody, somewhat roasty malty aroma. Light chocolate, coffee, tart berry, grape, woody flavor with some booze on the finish. I enjoyed this better than the Cognac version.

Tasted @ Crooked Stave during Zwanze Day 2012. Pours a dark reddish brown appearance with almost no head. Dark red grape, plum, raisin, somewhat boozy, oaky aroma. Somewhat tannic/leathery, dark grape, fig, raisin, caramel, light chocolate flavor with a fair amount of booze on the finish. Ok but pretty strong.

Bottle thanks to Jackl at THE fruit sour tasting. It pours cloudy light orange with a thin white head. The nose is vanilla, toasted coconut, vinous and sweet white grape. The taste is pretty damn sour, vinous, white grape, grapefruit, apricot, sherbet, some acidity and lactic acid with a very tart finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and medium-high acidity. Good balance and flavour. A well-crafted sour ale.

Tap at the barrel cellar - this should probably be marked as bourbon barrel aged, as I believe there will be several barrel iterations of this -billed as a 100%brett baltic porter aged in bourbon barrels -dark brown pour -rather still- nose is tart, oaky, actually quite wine-like - some sweet vanilla reminds you it is.bourbon barrels and not wine barrels -low carbonation, slick mouthfeel - very tart and tannic up front -sweetness through the middle, along with some heat and spiciness from the bourbon -sweetness is cut by a moderate acidity on the tail end -some coconut and red wine in the finish, which is medium dry - this is very good.

Tap at the barrel cellar - turbid ruby, frothy lace -nose is moderately oaky, mild aceto and lacto notes, touches of red wine tannic character, some earthy fruit notes (raspberry, but likely just the pomegranate) -flavor is quite oaky, very dry, moderate acidity -very mild funk -earthy, musty basement notes - oaky finish -a.bit oud bruin like -quite good.

Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit III. Pours a hazy golden orange appearance with a disappearing white head. White wine, pineapple, passion fruit, bretty, vanilla aroma. Juicy pineapple, mango, tropical fruity, big vanilla, very tart flavor. Really very tasty stuff with some acidity on the finish.

Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit III. Pours a fairly clear golden orange appearance with a disappearing white head. Tangy passion fruit, vanilla, bretty, light garbage, a bit zesty carbonated, white grape, pear aroma. Fairly tart white grape, light apple, somewhat oaky, vanilla, tangy tropical fruity flavor with a dry vinous finish. Interesting but not my favorite.

Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit III. Pours a bit hazy dark brown appearance with no head. Moderately tart plum, dark grape, spirit, a touch boozy, oaky, fig, tannic aroma. Very nice leather and tannic notes in the nose. Kind of chewy caramel, leather flavor with a dark grape tartness, vanilla, and oak. More tart than the bourbon barrel version with a slight stomach acid note. Fun to try but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the bourbon version.
