Description
Crooked Stave Brewing Company is an artisan microbrewery in Denver, Colorado. It was founded by beer lover and beer brewer Chad Yakobson. The establishment of Crooked Stave was the result of Chad’s years of travel and studies about beer brewing abroad. His study of Master of Science in Brewing and Distilling at a university in Scotland gave him the expertise to set up his own brewery. Crooked Stave brewery is known for their brewing specialty in Brettanomyces fermentations and barrel-aged sour and wild ales. Crooked Stave Brewing Company is home to some of the finest sour beers. Some of its remarkable beers are the Crooked Stave Surette, Crooked Stave Vieille and Crooked Stave St. Bretta.

Bottle. Pours with a lightly hazed yellow hued body with an initially large white head that succumbs to the acidity with medium-low retention and low lace. Aromas are of barnyard, grain, strawberry esters, gatorade and possibly a touch of diacetyl (which I do not get on the flavor). Fruity, earthy, damp leaves, medium funk, medium-low phenols. Light suntan lotion. Flavors are tart, dry and lightly woody. Funk, medium pineapple, low oak, straw, grainy, medium acidity. Low vegital character. Very easy to drink. Medium-lively carbonation, dry, low body. Bright and cleanly acidic on the finish. Thirst quenching.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a lazing yellowish head. The aroma has notes of lemons, brettanomyces, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of lemons, brettanomyces, and malt, leading to a dry and tart finish.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of adnielsen. Pours a pale cloudy yellow with a tiny white head. Tart, lactic aroma - almost Berliner Weisse’ish. Thin body, lowish carbonation, tart lemonish, salty, some baking yeast. Not the most sophisticated Sour, but very drinkable. 140712

750mL bottle shared by Brandon poured into a small Corsendonk goblet. Pours with a tiny head that fades into nothing. It is an oily pale color, medium clarity. Aroma is light.vinegar acetic with strong lemon touches. A little bit of graininess. Flavor is smoother on the sour vinegar that works better. It’s lemony tart with only hints of vinegar. Lighter yet thicker feeling. Dries up and doesn’t leave much behind on the palate. I don’t care how affordable it is because Brandon bought it.

Hazy gold - effervescent pour that fails to kick up a head - aroma is moderately lactic, with notes of citrus, mango, pineapple, oak, white wine - light melon-ish sweetness - quite a nice aroma, really - dry and acidic up front - tastes almost like malic acid, but with a little lactic acid thrown in - moderate tropical notes though the middle, with a touch of sweetness - some lemon and light funkiness - touches of oak and white wine-ish tannins - dry, moderately acidic finish - a nice, moderately sour table beer - just wish it were more affordable.

Courtesy of Dak. It pours purple-ish amber with off white head. The aroma is a yummy crumbled salty Feta cheese rimmed with berry fruit notes in the background. Around these notes are various levels of musty sour vinegar. Smells as if I’m going to really enjoy the flavor. Here goes, the taste is tart and running into an even mix of salty Feta cheese and smooth sweet to tart berry notes amid a thin layer of vinegar. It seems these notes couldn’t work together but they really do. Yummy stuff.
