Description
The Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg was established in 1871 by Sigmund von Willibald. The Von Willibalds owned the castle and brewery till 1917 when the premises were acquired by the Schülein family. The Schülein heirs sold the castle and brewery in 1954 to the Wittelsbach family. The König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg continues the 800-year tradition of brewing of the Wittelsbach dynasty. Prince Luitpold of Bavaria started in the 1970s to turn the small brewery in Kaltenberg Castle into a modern company.
The castle still houses part of the brewing installation of the König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei. 100,000 hectoliters of beer are brewed here every year. But most activities of the company are located in the large modern brewery in Fürstenfeldbruck. Since 2001 the König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg has been a 50/50 joint venture with Warsteiner.

500ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish, golden colour with average to huge, fluffy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Minimally grainy, pale malty aroma with a touch of corn, cereals, minimally soapy hoppy overtones. Taste is pale malty with subtle residual sweetness, minimally floral hoppy, a touch of corn, pop corn, diluted hints of honey, mildly bitter, minimally floral, hoppy overtones.
Minimally oily, watery texture, smooth and soft, minimally greasy palate, medium, dense, mildly prickly carbonation.
Very clean, good mouthfeel, a tad simple and monotonous - acceptable.

Aroma of dark bread, roasted malts, notes of caramel. Not too sweet. Decent but unimaginative.

Pours a hazy yellow with a substantial, enthusiastic white head. Aroma of wheat, some fruits and spices. I’ve had better hefeweizens (I’m looking at you Weihenstephaner), but regardless this is a nice example of the style.

[as König Ludwig Hell] Bottiglia.

Bottiglia.

Tap at Chojugura, Konishi sake brewery. Hazy gold with a tall head. Malty, yeasty nose, esters, stone fruits, herbal hops. Rich malt flavor, yeasty, slightly worty. Kellerbier territory, I get the strength of the Festbier. smooth body. Full and rich. Pretty nice.
