Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pale red, pretty much like strawberry champagne. Fizzy, disappearing head - soda-pop style. And soda-pop really is the closest reference to this. Artificially sweet with a chemical raspberry flavour. Yuck... 061099

(Bottle 33 cl) Green as a traffic-light. - even the head is green. Loads and loads of artificial flavourings and colours - the back label is horrific reading. Artificial, stickingly sweet flavour on the lactic background. Lots of fizz. Refreshing in a soda-poppish way. But a weird beer indeed. 180699

(Bottle 33 cl) Mainly known for their "Berliner Weisse" Schultheiss also makes a decent pilsener. Golden with a decent head. Some light malt with a discreet bitter finish. Easy drinkable. 250499

(bottle) Clear golden colour with a small white foamy head. Most of all malty aroma with hints of floral hops. Initially malty taste with a soft bitterness turning into a medium dry hoppy finish. A decent german Pilsener from the capital Berlin.

(Bottle 33 cl) Beautiful golden colour. Lovely soft body with a pronounced sweetness and far from the sharp, unpleasant bitterness often found in Maibocks. 050499

(bottle) Pale & cloudy yellow colour with medium fizzy white diminishing head. The aroma is wheaty with citrus fruits. Initially very sour, it soon has a dry lemon taste almost lasting and thirst quenching. I would never drink it with syrup. With its low ABV it is perfect for hot summer days. If there was no “Reinheitsgebot”, which is rather a burden for german beers, it could also be a german Witbeer.

Pale yellow, small white head. Slightly sour and grassy nose. Light-bodied, sourish, like drinking lemon water. Long sour aftertaste. Personal but not very enjoyable style.

(Bottle 50 cl) Paleish - yet fully golden - beer with a very limited head. Fulbodied and sweet, but definitely not cloying. Actually a surprisingly harmonious and well made light Bock. 130205
