Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lovely, very nice and intense roast, dried fruits, a bit sourish impression, chocolate notes, whisky, alcohol, raisins, lovely! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: nice roast, alcohol, lovely, lots of chocolate, sweet dried fruits, lots of caramel, more chocolate, alcohol, bitter, lovely roast. Aftertaste: sweet, dry roast, caramel, alcohol, chocolate, lovely beer, what a way to start the festival!

Lovely thick and rich molé stout. Great body for the ABV. Lightly roasty, some soft chilli warmth with a light smokyness, and a nice amount of cacao. Excellent barrel ageing, nicely balanced amount of soft bourbon.

23/9/22: A rare treat, this. Thick, rich and smooth, with a nice warmth to it. Besides that, it's also absolutely delicious. Fairly sweet, with a nice amount of bourbon. Light chocolate, vanilla, and plenty of coffee roast. Well done!

Can. Clear red amber with a good cm of off white head. Aroma of sticky breadcrust, plums, pine, spices. Only moderately sweet, comfortably avoiding the stewed fruit and heaviness that can be issues with these biggish hoppy ambers. Moderately bitter and brightly piny and spicy at the end. Very drinkable. Very solid for a style I don't love but understand people are gagging for.

Can. Clear copper with a pale beige head that doesn’t last long. Rich vanilla toffee aroma with light spices, subtle peach. Rich and fairly sweet before firm spicy bitterness. Solid with good balance. No yeast driven nuance though.

From a 440ml can on 14/6/2022. Pours a deep deep brown with very little in the way of head. The nose is distinct with lots of dark fruit, red wine, chocolate, spice and a touch of booze. The taste is complex, with lots going on - dark chocolate, light roasted malt, more dark fruit with vinous notes. Just a touch of chilli at the back of a sharpish finish with some warming bourbon. The palate is slick, the carbonation average. Both restrained and interesting. A nicely put together big sipper.

Can. Very black with a small brown head that lingers at the rim. Aroma of roast malt,dark brown sugar, vanilla. The chiles are there if you know they are. Clearer upon a sip, although it's the cinnamon and oak that show mostly clearly. Only medium bodied and moderately sweet with gentle rumbling chiles and spices, Bourbon and lots of oak. Bottle, 10C. Slightly hazy orange with a cm or so of white head that fades to a coat. 3+ Gently funky aroma with crackers, Dubbin and a mix of summery and autumnal stone fruit. Slightly slippery with a light but not thin texture. Fruity and dryish with only a little bitterness emerging right at the somewhat twiggy end. The finish took a while to register but eventually works well. Good.

Can. Clear gold with a white head that's soon a coat. Aroma of pineapple, some mandarin & mango skin, crackers. Dry with enough crackery bread to support quite punchy fruity hops before a moderately bitter (and somewhat spicy) finish. Snappy at the end. Right up my street, although just like any good XPA should be is total bollocks.

Can. Dark brown with a cm of beige head. Aroma of sweetened coffee. But there's some nuts and toast upon a taste and the palate is rather broader than suggested by the aroma. Lots of coffee, not too much dark sugar. Some bitterness that might just be coffee at the end. Good.
