330ml bottle - Pours an unclear coppery brown colour with a small thin bubbly beige head. The aroma is malty, caramel, sweet dried fruit and light chocolate notes. A sweet malty taste, warming alcohol, sweet malts, caramel, citrus peel and dark fruit flavours with a warming bittersweet finish.

[Cask at the Alehouse, Reading] A murky amber pour with a scummy looking white head; tropical fruit aroma; rather soapy in the mouth with a full on tropical fruit taste; then a bitter finish with sharp citrus zest and some underlying pine resin. Tastes better than it looks! [Revisited at the Alehouse in July 2023.] This time a crystal clear golden amber pour. A perfect looking pint. Tasting as before, with a warming finish.

Bottle bought at the brewery shop. Aroma has this unpleasant moldy earthy, fungi streak. Some jammy fruit. Clear light gold. Foamy translucent white head. Medium bitter. Grainy. Metallic citrus edge. Light. Thin if slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. A muted odd borefest.

Bottle bought at the brewery shop. Aroma sugary watery citrus, malts and soggy cardboard. Clear dull gold. Thin bubbly white head starts off lively but soon shrinks away. Medium bitter with a sour edge. Metallic citrus. Underlying cardboard. Light. Thin. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Boring. Another AF beer that makes me wonder why people bother with them other than a tick. Really bad beer would at least get you drunk, this is just odd tasting pop.

Cask at the brewery tap. Aroma is low key - malts and caramel. Clear light brown. Creamy white head soon recedes. Initial ligh-medium woody bitterness soon joined by warming caramel sweetness. Sour berry and citrus edge. The bitterness is there for the duration but into the finish I get a real sugary streak. Medium bodied. Slick verging on oily. Soft carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at the brewery tap. Aroma combines light stone fruit and citrus. Hazy dull amber. Creamy white head is blotchy and thins out. Tart sourness and bitter resin. Sweet stone fruit hints on the periphery. Medium bodied. Slick. Pithy. Flat carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Not balanced - far more bitter than I'd expect from a Hazy Pale.

Cask at the brewery tap. Aroma has juicy citrus and pineapple. Clear amber. Thin creamy white head retreats to the rim. Medium bitter. Grainy. Woody. Sour citrus edge. Herbs. Light. Slick if thin. Soft carbonation.Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Underlying malts. As far as Hogs Back brews go this is pretty flavoursome and hoppy.

Bottle from Waitrose, Eastbourne. Pours a clear dark amber colour with a thinnish white head. Nice aromas of citrus, floral, biscuits, apples and peppery spice. Taste has more citrus and floral, more biscuits and peppery spice, a touch of caramel, sherbet and fruit salad sweets. Sweet malts at first and light earthy hops on the finish. Nicely balanced. Medium body, fairly low carbonation and smooth oily mouthfeel. Decent beer.

[Cask at the Ale House Reading.] A golden amber pour with next to no head; citrusy aroma; quite syrupy in the mouth with some tropical fruit; then a fresh leafy hop bitterness to finish.

Bottle at home, picked up from the brewery shop, 07/08/22. Clear golden with a good sized lasting just off white head. Nose is melon, grass, tangerine, pale malts, light hop. Taste comprises pale malts, hint of caramel, grass, orange peel, sweet edged. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with modest hop bitterness. Passable IPL ... a touch sweet and flabby ... preferred the base lager yesterday ... needs more hop presence and a crisper cleaner edge.
