Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.
We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Bottle at home, picked up from the brewery shop, 07/08/22. Clear golden blonde with a decent white cap that settles to a swirl Nose is light citric peel, hint of caramel, airy malts, touch of artificial sugar. Taste comprises light citric sherbets, grass, light pale malt base, trace of sugars, grains. Light bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with mellow hop bitterness. Fine for the low ABV genre.

Bottle bought at the brewery shop. Aroma is herbal and citrus with a tart edge. Clear copper gold. Thick foamy white head. Medium bitter. Tart citrus edge which has tinny element to its detrement. This is over a grainy malty core. Light. Thin. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Typical HB for me. Unlike the Black IPA which was a genuinely good modern style beer, this is just a boring lager with hops dumped in with no panache.
