Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.

We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

500ml bottle from my local Morrison's, drank at Auntie Sue's on 15th November 2025. Deep amber colour, off white crust. Malty and spiced feel, slight ginger undertone, great for the price and one of the better 'Christmas Beers' around so far this year that I've tried.

A faint, fruity, malty aroma. Amber-brown, clear. Small, creamy head. A slightly spicy flavour of dried fruit, syrupy consistency, with a tart fruitiness of cherries and plums. Ginger is barely perceptible. Then orange peel with a light spicy note, adding a touch of dryness. A pleasant, subtly spicy, winter beer. OK.

Flavour is composed of semi sweet, bready grains, faint lime, very dull, some creamy vanilla notes. Palate is semi sweet, rounded limp. Boring.

Pint up the White Lady. Pours clear golden with a thick white head. Aromas of lime and light biscuit. Taste is more of the same. Limey finish. Bit one note, but had a second! Fest tick 11 and possibly the last due to holidays.
