Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.

We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Bottle. Color: Lightly hazy golden, white head. Aroma: Floral hop, grain, subtle fruity. Taste: Floral hop, sweetish and grainy malt, some citrus fruit and hints of sweetish tropical fruit. Light hints of caramel. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Moderate to over moderate sweet, moderate bitterness. Starting hoppy, going to more malty, more sweetish, with a hoppy backbone.

500ml bottle in the early hours of 12th July 2026, England had just beaten Norway in the quarter finals of the World Cup and I thought this would be a fitting tribute to the team (sadly it wasn't). Golden body, weak white head, tired citrus fruit nose and taste, bland malty sweetness, all too subtle and uninteresting to be honest. Good job it was cheap!

A World Cup Of Beers#16. ENGLAND. Going for one of the WC specials whilst England are playing, and it's about as traditional a beer as it gets as a native brew. Clear golden in colour with a good hop-malt balance, decent bottle-conditioning, some initial bitterness leads to some sweetness, all at a very easy strength. A hint of caramel. Rousing artwork and a replacement of the 'Three Lions' song by 'hogs' going through my mind. Drank whilst watching the final group game for England - Panama vs England.

Bottle at home from Morrisons. Long week and an all in day working from home in the heat. Followed by lots of taxi driving for daughter. Absolutely shattered. Anyway, this was very well chilled and slipped down. Not much going on but very thirst quenching. Its ok.

[50cl bottle from Morrisons] A bright amber pour with a fast fading white head and gentle carbonation; biscuity aroma; thin in the mouth with some sweet malts and a light English hop bitterness. This won't distract you from the match!

Now 3,4%. Light, hoppy aroma. Golden colour, with a white, quickly dissipating head. Medium body and carbonation, refreshing and easy to drink. Malty flavour, some caramel and fruitiness, and notes of lemon, with a distinct herbal bitterness. Good for watching the game.
