Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.

We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Cask @ Barum Top Inn, Halifax. Slightly deeper golden with a creamy head. Citrus is prevalent but without much bitterness, which allows a hint of sweetness through.

Bottle from Cooperative Supermarket, Mytholmroyd. Slightly deeper golden with a thick frothy head. On the maltier side of things, but there's enough hoppiness to be enjoyed if you like this style.

Bottle 0.5l at home, Tampere. Enjoyed straight from the bottle. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, some harhness, some floral elements, hops and malts. More like golden ale than bitter IMO. Pretty fruity and tasty!

[Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell.] A slightly amber pour with a tight white head; biscuity aroma; smooth in the mouth with a lemony taste and a bready body; then a burst of orange and grapefruit zest adds bitterness. A pleasant summery pint.

Keg at Duke of Cambridge, Tilford. Aroma has sweet stone fruit and malts. Clear copper gold. Creamy translucent white head. Initially sweet and fruity. Citrus edge. Does develop some bitterness - more quinine than resin. Malty underbelly. Light-medium bodied. Slick if thin. Soft carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. HB's attempt at a West Coast so a slightly more bitter version of their malty barely hopped products.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 29/10/2021. Hazy golden beer, with a medium-sized, white, head. Floral hops, big citrus and juicy peach character, with some light malts and a dryish finish. Fine.
