2010 bottle. Shockingly high fill line. Pours with a clear deep brown body with a minimal off-white head. Slightly tan hue that fades. Aromas of belgian esters, brown sugar, light roast, cereal grain, caramel. Lightly medicinal. Flavors are thin, slightly metallic and very watery. Light malt. Lightly tart, esters. Lots of off flavors to be honest. Some lactic. Medium bubbles and thin. To be honest, I heard from the brewer he was very unhappy with how this turned out and to be honest it wasn’t pleasnt, with signs of an infection. I’ve been told by the brewer that he is not happy with this.

On tap. Pours with a clear bronze body with a small off-white head that lasts. Aromas of molasses, raisins, brandy, dark fruits, alcohol and brown sugar. Quite a "chewy" smelling aroma. Light chocolate notes. Flavors of raisins and brown sugar. Quite a few esters reminiscent of pears and plums. Sweet and rounded. Smooth. Medium bubbles. Finishes decently dry. Lightly warming.

On tap. Pours with a hazy golden-orange body with a lasting white head. Aromas are herbal, floral, herbaceous, citrus, spicy, lemon, grassy. Lightly dank/floral notes. A little bit of a phenolic horsey note. Flavors are dry and herbals with light phenols and esters. Malt bill is slightly grainy. Citrus throughout and a slight saison-yeast tartness that makes you want another sip. Lively bubbles, medium bodied with a dry finish. I could drink a lot of this. Very tasty.

12oz Bottle pours out a copper/amber topped with almost no head. Aroma was light pepper, basil, rich malts, and some sweetness. Taste was more of the basil leading the way along with some spice, light sweetness and a little something on the end that sticks around.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours with a hazy brown body and a lasting off-white head. Aroma smells pretty nice with hints of bourbon, esters, rich malty, chocolate, brown sugar, oak and some tannin. Flavors are not as nice. Very watery for a big beer, very thin, dry and tannin laden. Some brown sugar, and oak, not much else. Medium bubbles.

Smells delicious, with a thick swipe of hops and rye. Pours okay, red-brown but the head never materializes much past the thin-doughnut phase. Tastes malty and nutty, with the rye giving a nice bump to proceedings before the hops provide a mildly bitter finish. Good but a little flat and dull. (10/08)

Bottle. Soapy malt aroma, a little lactose and chocolate. Black brown with a thin, quickly dissipating tan head. Bitter chocolate, roasted malt., ashy, acidic flavor. I thought it was a little on the light bodied side for a stout, and the mouthfeel was rather acidic. Not one I’ll drink again, as there are much better options avialable.
