From the beer of the month club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a large creamy brown head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was dry with strong cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. The flavor was dry and bitter with a strong gingerbread presence, light nutty undertones and a touch of fruit, The finish was long, dry and spicy. Medium body. Decent.

12oz bottle split with Ann. Brown-amber color. Thin, oily head. Sweet, nutty malt aroma. Deep malt tones, almost approaching a Doppelbock feel. Lacks the pungency, pretty clean. Pretty much just a big Brown Ale, doesn’t really earn the "Imperial" moniker. Mellow carbonation, not much more than some minimal balancing hops. OK.

Bottle: Pours a dark chestnut brown color with an ample beige head. I love the way the spicey notes work with the maltiness and light florals. Not overpowering in any way and very complimentary. At first I thought there was a bit too much sweetness, but it really balances out as it warms and drinks very smooth. Nicely done.

Bottle. Pours with a big, near black (mahogany) body, with a small, tan head. Aromas of caramel, tobacco, nutmeg, basil, molasses and vegetables. Bready, rum soaked grain notes. Flavors of nuts, tannic (over temp sparged) malts, tobacco, caramel, chocolate, earthy, dusty, metallic. Lively bubbles, bland and sometimes bad. Not impressed.

Bottle. Pours with a deep brown, nearly black pour and a tan head that lasts (for a bit). Aromas of ginger (spicy-burn...too much), dusty, nutmeg, cooked corn, red hots/cinnamon, nuts and chocolate. Grainy. Flavors of tobacco, dust, metal, blood, earth, iodine, mud, muddy spices. Not good. Cooked vegitables/DMS too. A completely undrinkable beer. Lively bubbles. Not good. There are a lot of Bison beers available to me that I have passed up on...Not sure if this will help me pick up the other ones.

Candi, marachino cherries, and roasted malt aroma, with wisps of smoke in the background. Clear dark tea colored, head vanishes in an instant. Nice even blend of sweet cherry and roasted malt. Not cloying, but I might not always be in the mood for this level of sweetness. Alcohol is noticeable. What exactly is the difference between a Belgian Scotch and a Dubbel?

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt as well as notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and chocolate, leading to a dry and roasted finish, where the chocolate and cocoa notes lingers.

22oz bottle. Light hiss when opened. Deep brown black, with a thin beige head. Malty aroma, some dulled chocolate. Very low carbonation, chocolate soda body. Really unexceptional. I don’t get much Belgian yeast or any Belgian-like effervescence to speak of. Watery, poor body. Sweet, sticky, ginger-chocolate finish. Disappointing. Mellows and becomes more beer-like as it approaches room temp, some raisin tones.

12oz bottle pours clear mahogany with light mocha head. The aroma puts out a bit of roasted malts, nuttiness and little else including no off putting spoiled organic notes that seem to go hand in hand with some of these organic brews. Ah, but there is in the taste though, ugh. Sandwiched between roasty malts and nuttiness is a mild earthy organic stale/spoiled malt note. By midway and into the finish some bitter baker’s chocolate and mild pine hop notes come to the surface. I get dark roasted malts lingering into the after taste.
