Bottled, early 2007 (2006 version). Dark brown brew, not much head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate & fruit (raisins). Sweet flavor with raisins. Medium bodied. Long finish, but no new flavor. Alcohol is well hidden. Good double, very flavorful.

On draft in a pint glass. Pale orange with a off-white, creamy head. Nice hop aroma with malt backbone. Well-structured. Hops dominate the palate. This is a massively hopped beer with only hint of malt. The hops are mostly bittering, seemingly losing the floral charcter of the nose.

On draft out of a pint glass at a Bison Brewing paired dinner. Almost opaque brown with flecks of amber. A coffee brown full head that longers and clings to the glass. Not much aroma but some subtle malt. When you resmell it after a delay, the gingerbread is much more pronouced, but fleeting. Taste of full, roasted, chocolate malt follows through with a round mouthfeel and some smoky campfire on the finish.

On draft out of a pint glass. Pours a clear, golden-orange with a billowy off-white head. Aromas of basil are muted with nice yeast scent. Full well-rounded mouthfeel with good cabonation but minimal yeast and some viscosity. Flavor really comes thru on the mid-palate. Nice basil finish and subtle balance of malt and hops.

Bottle from Berkeley Bowl. Pours a clear, but very, very dark brown with a foamy bubbly 3 finger tan head. I smell something like cat piss. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is smooth dark roast "brown" flavored malt with a good dose of resin/citrus, I think. The hop goes away quickly leaving a sort of chocolately brown malt flavor. It’s a decent drink, but seems a bit confused. Maybe that’s just me. Note: the body apparently came from the carbonation. It goes thin with the departure of the carbonation.

Pours deep red-orange into a shaker. Tan head quickly subsides to hug rim. Stale hop and rye aromas. Sweet caramel upfront with a lasting pepper rye finish that unfortunately has past it’s time.

Bottle. Now called just Bison Imperial Brown, but note on bottle describes it as this beer. Very nutty aroma, walnuts and pecans. Poured dark brown with medium fast dissipating head. Dry nutty flavour with roasty notes., Dry finish, with toasted unsalted nut notes.

11th October 2008. GABF.
Very dark brown clear beer. A bit unfair tasting this after ’Legend of the Liquid Brain’. Toasty malt, no real chocolate. Dry palate. Original rating 2.7

At Papsoe’s pre CPH Beer Fest tasting, cheers Henrik! Opaque black beer, bubbly tan head. Soft bubbly palate. Rich malt, chocolatey malt with a subtle orange - grapefruit undertone.

Bottle: Light haze in a pale golden pour with a monster white head. So much lacing it practically covers the entire glass. Aromatic, but more like potpurri than an ale. Bright and spicey florals and sweet caramel maltiness. Nice flavor profile of sweet caramel, lively florals, and mild citrus. More flavor than most organic ipa’s. Not bad at all.
