Bottle at Max’s. Opaque black with a hint of brown. Patchy, minimal head. Mellow sweet and roasty aroma. Not knowing what to expect of a Kiwi Black Ale, I’m not too let down. Rich black malt flavor, some caramel-toffee sweetness. Malt dominated all the way, ends up being a little overly sweet.

Copper pour, head faded rapidly.Aroma is malt based: toasted/dark malt, molasses, bread, weet-bix, vegemite. Might be a hint of hops in there somewhere...Flavours are similar, with sweet dark malt, more bread vegemite. But then it just ends... leaving a very watery sensation. Almost no bitterness or hops...

Might be my first New Zealand beer ever. Bottle at RFD. Aroma is fairly standard, some sweetness, some grass. Flavor was a little metallic, some biscuit, some orange. Watery finish. What can you say? Not great but not everything can be.

Bottle, shared by Papsoe. It’s a clear, dark golden beer with a small, off-white head. Honey, heather notes, sweetness and some dried fruits in the aroma. Sweet flavor with dried fruits, some bitter notes and caramel. Medium body with appropriate carbonation. Short, fruity finish. The beer felt a bit "dead", and rather boring, but was sure drinkable. Bottle, thx to Papsoe. It pours a clear, golden body under a white head. Fruity nose with some pale malts. Tropical fruits too, but in the background. The flavor is also on the fruity side, with some tropical fruits and a little malty sweetness. Medium body. Some bitterness in the finish, I would like it more pronounced. Maybe a bit on the sweet side, but it’s a quite nice beer. (090514)

33 cL bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small off-white head. Light metallic aroma, vague biscuit like malt note too. Mild caramelish and bitter flavoured. Medium dry. Lasting caramelish to breadish malt impression into a dry and bitter finish.
