Bottle from a Deen supermarket in Holland. Deliberately light beer with medium, off-white, moussy, regular head and hazy ’old gold’ colour with slight orangey hue as well as a thin and eerie ’haze’ of yeast. Aroma of freshly cut grass, powder sugar, sweet apple, a lot of coriander seed, acacia honey, raw rhubarb, green apple peel, straw, cooked chicken, old cake. Crisp but notably fruity onset of pear, pineapple, unripe green plum and green kiwi, spritzy carbo, supple and indeed light mouthfeel of lightly bready and slightly doughy malts, bit grainy and even ’sweaty’, subtly phenolic with a finish of juicy bready and grainy malts, grassy and lightly spicy and ’straw-like’ hop bitterishness and remaining clove-like phenols, but all remain quite subdued and in relatively good ’contact’ with the green apple-like acetaldehyde remaining; still, in the end, the one thing dominating is that soapy bittersweet coriander presence, lingering for a much longer time than would have been appropriate. Light as intended, but simple, clearly ’overcoriandered’ and certainly not more saison-like than your average Belgian blonde, which in terms of style is a lot closer to the truth. Could have been worse I guess - but I do not understand how this can be called a ’table beer’!

Bottle from a Deen supermarket. Medium thick but quickly thinning, egg-white, moussy head retaining well on the edges and in an ’island’ of thin foam in the middle, over a hazy orangey golden beer with notably strong fizz rising up from the bottom of the glass. Aroma of banana, white pepper, dried ginger powder, wet cardboard, old ’jenever’, old mouldy orange, tomato, toasted white bread, withering flowers, fairly strong glueish phenols, cooked potato, mustard seed, coriander, grass. Fruity onset of banana, peach and redcurrant, sweetish and sourish with the expected strong (but still ’finely’ tingling) fizz, citrus peel freshness, supple honeyish and caramelly malt sweetness with a nutty edge, hint of cardboard above as well as spicy yeastiness, dryish in the end with peppery and floral hop character, mildly bittering, and the inevitable glow of rather coarse, gin-like alcohol, adorned with remainders of the phenolic spiciness and assisting the hops in drying the finish; an oily ’film’ of boring coriander bittersweet spiciness remains as well. Alcohol could have been better hidden even for a tripel (becomes even rather tiresome after a while), coriander should be a lot more subtle and malt body could have been thicker and ’fuller’; not very clean either, the phenolic part should be played down a bit. All things considered, this is a very ’Belgian’ but at the same time very average, not to say boring tripel. Lacks inspiration and refinement.

Bottle shared by Craftmember, new Dutch micro apparently brewing in Belgium. Very thick, rocky, off-white head with papery lacing, deep coppery brown colour, initially clear but hazy with deposit. Aroma of grass, some FFF (freshly fermented farmland), dried red berries, caramel, hazelnuts, garden weeds, bitter honey, quite ’natural’ iron, hint of cocoa. Dried fruit sweetishness in onset, redcurrant sourishness but restrainedly so, medium carbo, dryish nutty and sweetish caramelly malts, herbal, leafy and lightly peppery hoppy finish, more bitterish than in the well-known industrial examples of the style. Decent dubbel, slightly above average for the style in terms of hoppiness, but otherwise not too remarkable either.

Bottle from Deen Supermarket, Landsmeer, Nr Amsterdam, (I really need to add this place) consumed at home Thursday 29th October 2015. Hazy yellow gold with a white. A touch of spice but also a bit biscuity, like a nice biscuit (btw I am using nice as in biscuit name as opposed to to nice, ain’t that a nice...) a simple beer, bit thin perhaps, some metallic flavour, ok, but the weakest of the three that I have had thus far from this outfit, in fact I would never have guessed that this was a Saison. Bottle picked up from Deen Supermarket, Landsmeer, Consumed at home, Sunday 12th October 2015. Soft in the mouth, subtle flavours, a little soft nut, actually a very light praline edge, a light very milky cappuccino doused with chocolate. This is a good uncomplicated Dubbel, I quite like what this brewery are putting out, simple but very drinkable. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle from Deen Supermarket, Landsmeer Nr Amsterdam Netherlands Consumed at home Saturday 10th October 2015. Very lively on the pour, a huge big foamy clean white head. The nose has a hint of chemical taint (not much) but what there is makes my nostrils flare and I cannot pick up much else. It’s sweet and malty (spicy also) in the mouth and isn’t giving any indication that it is 9%, the abv is well hidden. Fruity with a little sweet citrus (spicy again) On the plus side this is a jolly drinkable beer, it’s really not bad at all, however conversely it is also just a little bit forgettable.
