Description
Spearheading the barrel-ageing movement from Scotland, The Original bourbon barrel-aged beer is the one that started Innis & Gunn when Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp founded the brewery in 2003.
Innis & Gunn was contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent's Wellpark Brewery since 2014. On 15 November 2018 Tennent's announced the brewing contract will be terminated with effect from September 2020. Innis & Gunn responded the following day by saying they plan on opening their own brewery.
The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth is our home for innovation and barrel-ageing. With plans to build a new large scale brewery in our hometown of Edinburgh, it will be the first new large brewery to be built in the capital in 150 years.

Bottle from B&M. Pours a dark ruby red with small beige top. Smoky earth aroma with whisky, dark malt with some sweetness coming through. That smoke and whisky flavour dominates with dark malts, hint of caramel. Medium bodied, semi-drying. An acquired smoky taste. A little too intense for me where just sniffing for aroma gave me a headache. Its good that they didn't water down for the likes of me though.

330ml can from Co-op. Look - clear amber, small creamy looking head, nice retention Nose - grapefruit and mango , a little floral. Tis' Ok. Taste - mostly grapefruit, some mango tanginess and caramel malts. Very clean tasting. Unremarkable but nice. Palate - nice medium body but an aggressive carbonation. Enjoyed it but its no classic.

330ml bottle from Morrisons. Clear brown-amber, small off-white head, nice retention. Aroma of sweet malts, whisky, earth, wood; interesting. Taste is sweet, malty, oak-whisky notes, vanilla; there is a nice build up of flavours on the palate despite it being relatively simple. Medium body and carbonation, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Good.

330ml bottle from Tesco, Skegness. Pours a dark brown, looks somewhat like cola, small off white head. Aroma and taste of vanilla, rum, oak, toffee, malts, cola. Quite sweet with a modest bitterness. Nice.
