Description
Brouwerij Sterkens has a particularly rich and very tasteful history. In 1651, the Sterkens family began to brew their own beer out of interest. In that time, they were local farmers with small amount of money to brew some quantities. As they were brewing, they wrote down every single detail of the recipes they made and the way they produced the beer. These notes were given from father to son, for generations on. When the family noticed that brewing beer gradually got more priority than working on the farm, they chose to professionalize the brewery and to fill out more quality beers. The delicious and spicy St. Sebastiaan and St. Paul beers were well appreciated in Belgium, what led to the fact that Brouwerij Sterkens was one of the first breweries who went abroad for exportation.

The current 14th generation of Brouwerij Sterkens have ensured that the beers of Sterkens are appreciated in more than 30 countries on all 5 continents. The Sterkens family is looking to the near future with a lot of enthousiasm and confidence, without forgetting the past. After all, Brouwerij Sterkens is still bottling their beers in distinctive and exceptional packaging.

Sterkens did stop with brewing and became a client brewer in 2008.

Ceramic bottle with swing top(500ml). –as St. Laurent Tripel.
Hazy orange coloured, small white head that disappears within few seconds, sweet white wine nose. Sweet malty aroma with notes of spices and some yeast. Short acidic finish. To be honest I’ve expected much more…and yes, like argo0 said: „Sadly, the highlight of this beer is its nice ceramic bottle“.

Ha, drunken Paul cracked this baby on Friday night of BCTC (7/20/07). Early Friday night was about the only time I was somewhat sober, so I’m not going to miss out on rating this one.
Old bottle, not sure how old, but I’d guess it was at least 5 years old, if not more.
Still poured a one-finger pink-tinged-white head atop a mostly clear (protein chunk in bottom) marmalade colored beer. Head faded fairly rapidly to ring, leaving little lacing.
Medicinal phenols and band-aids in the nose are bolstered by vanilla-like oxidation of the malts and hints of cherry pit or cherry juice notes. Light black pepper, some waxiness and a bit of artificial sweetner. Still quite a strong aroma, with nips of fusel alcohol on the finish.
An odd citric acidity is still present, assumedly from the cherries. Little/no acetic acid, with lightly oxidized, but still rather enjoyable pale malts producing honey and vanilla. Some brief instances of caramel with a tangy, almost lactic or citrus-rind-like finish. Carbonation is still ample, though not exactly tight or creamy. Not bad though, considering the age.

Cloudy golden color; huge head. The aroma is malty and spicy, like a Triple, the flavor is malty too, sweet and lightly fruity, making it very pleasant, also the bitterness is bold at the end. Solid and good.

Aroma of dark malt and arguably citrus hop. A huge frothy tan head on top of a ruby mahogany beautiful color. Although strong light is required to penetrate the ale. Full bodied, creamy carbonation. Some citrus sour, some coffee, arguably anise, could be prune or plum. The finish is fairly dry, lightly bitter, again some anise, and mostly just wonderful. Way underrated. Truly.

Ceramic bottle. BB 08/06/11. Aroma of malt and candy sugar with a bit of stone fruit. Slightly hazy golden color with a firm, lasting head. Thin to medium bodied. Starts with sweet fruit, yeast spice, and a touch of warmth. The finish is a touch of clove, lingering sweetness, and a touch of bitter. Quite nice.
