Big Hug Brewing

Client Brewer in Peckham, Greater London, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Description
Dan and Chris had spent 4 months prior to our launch at Craft Beer Rising looking for a site in almost every corner of London but it became quite obvious, quite quickly, that with the money that we had we weren’t going to be able to do things the traditional way. We couldn’t set up with the right size kit and the right size facility. So with no brewer, no permanent facility and a launch at craft beer rising 2014 around the corner, whilst not initially the plan, we hung our hat on being ‘Hobo’ brewers. Some people call it cuckoo brewing, some people call it gypsy brewing, some people call it contract brewing, some people call it nomad brewing. We prefer the term hobo brewers but whatever you want to call it… its what we do.

Keg at Brewhouse & Kitchen Islington, 04/10/16. Pale golden yellow with a decent white cap. Nose juicy citric peel, lemon sherbet, straw, bread. Taste comprises melon, orange pith, toasted bread, sweet malt, light floral notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light hop tickle in the close. Ok easy drinker if a touch sweet.

Thank you chriso (?). 330 ml. bottle sampled @ Pre-Borefts Ratebeer Tasting 2016. Hazy orange, little white head. Nose is dull insecticide hops, herbal, unpleasant raw bitter, chemical hops. Taste is bitter plasts, herbal mixed with same unpleasant chemical & insecticide bitterness, faint pine. Plaster yeast body. Their Himalayan Red Rye Ale was pretty decent, this one I don’t like.

Thank you chriso (?). 330 ml. bottle sampled @ Pre-Borefts Ratebeer Tasting 2016. Red amber, toffee, tanned head. Nose is basic empty toffee, sugar, lightly metallic. Taste is fizzy with some interesting toffee malts, lightly herbal, sugar, bit metallic. Malty body, lightly metallic. Bit dull & metallic but the malt profile is an interesting one & saves it a bit for me.

Bottle. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is earthy, toffee, a bit off. Taste is the same, with an oily mouthfeel. Classic British Pale Ale I’d say.
