Description
Deca Brewery brews delicious gems such as Vleteren 8 & 12, Antiek 8 and Antiek 12. It is also a liquor store and guides brewers with advice and logistical assistance in brewing their beer. The Decaestecker Brewery, or Deca for short, was founded around 1880-1890 and destroyed during WO. I. The brewer not only made beer, but also lemonade. The house is an eclectic wide house. The brewery was and is in the factory buildings behind it. The brewery became after WWI. rebuilt partly with recycled material. In addition to the traditional cooling machine from around 1920 and the stirring tank from around 1850, the company has been completely modernized. In 1980 he Jo Christiaens took over the former Decaestecker brewery in Woesten. Together with his son Nicolas, he turned the Deca brewery into a profitable brewery.

Strong Belgian blonde brewed for drinks center De Centrale in Diksmuide (though at first for the municipality of Diksmuide apparently), sampled in a café at the Diksmuide market place. This beer has been in existence since 2015 and was brewed by Dolle Brouwers at first, but went to Deca in 2019; AVB has dropped by one per cent at the time and I heard that the Dolle version was actually just an alias of their core Ara Bier, in spite of their policy of being against aliasing (or 'etiketbieren', as good old OBP coined this phenomenon). Egg-white, thick and frothy, rocky, stable head on a hazy peach blonde robe with amber glow, turning more pale-brownish with sediment but still generally blonde. Aroma of bread crust and bread pulp, dried orange peel, coriander seed, crumbling dry earth, fried potato, clove, roasted turnips, unripe peach, pear peel, straw, field flowers. Fruity onset but restrained and not sweet, hinting at unripe peach and apricot peel along with a dash of hard pear, medium carbonated, smooth-bodied, even a bit fluffy. Cereally and bready core, touch banana bread but feeling 'true' and genuine, bitter orange peel note along with the expected coriander seed spiciness, blending with a clove-like phenolic touch and floral hops into a yeasty, earthy, drying, spicy and altogether utterly 'Belgian' finish. Typical local 'streekbier' of old-fashioned signature, as if the craft beer movement never happened - but technically very solid and I like that a lot.

330ml bottle [as "Vleteren Wit"]. Slightly cloudy, orange golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Wheaty malty and yeasty fruity, minimally yeasty spicy aroma, hints of pear and apple, whiffs of clove, coriander, orange peel. Taste is wheaty malty and slightly spicy, quite zesty bitter, hints of coriander, a touch of orange peel, way more zesty bitterness than orange flavour, undertones of white bread, pear and apple.
Minimally creamy, watery texture, slightly dry palate, medium to fine, dense, prickly carbonation.
Relatively bitter and almost a tad aggressively spicy, accordingly not exactly harmonious, but fairly refreshing and definitely boring as well - decent.
