Bottle @ WSF 2008. Hazy orange with no head. Sweet with brandy, caramel and overripe fruits. Very vinous and somewhat boozy.

Gotmos got a keg of this last night for a party, which gave me the opportunity to rate this "properly." Since this beer is tap only drinking only 14-16oz in a bar can’t possibly provide enough of a sample to understand the beer. So I sat there trying to drink this beer from the beginning of the keg to the end, the really understand the nature of this brew. It pours well looking enough with a clear, bright golden color and a large strong head. The beer is definitely Belgian inspired with a nice yeast sweetness followed by peach skin and orange like flavors. The hops play a background role and contribute light citrus and light sweet hoppiness to back up the Belgian aspect. The none Belgian qualities are represented in a much cleaner malt profile. Its easy to drink, I mean I tried to sit for hours and drink the whole container so I could not "cheat": a rating out of it but eventually I had to pass out.

750 ml bottle generously shared by Gregis. Bottle opened as a gusher, though the foam settled fast in everyone’s glass. Pour is black brown with a thinnish tan head. There is some visible carbonation that settles down pretty quickly. Aroma of smoke peatiness on one hand, and the rum on the other. The two aromas are very distinct, and seperate. Taste is pretty much right in line with the nose, smoke and rum. Pretty boozy in the finish. This is well made, though the integration of the flavor elements was pretty much non-existent. Thanks to Stine for sharing. A black colored beer with lots of carbonation out of Eben’s 750 ml. There is an aroma of brett-yeast, and some malt. I wasn’t sure what style I was drinking and I thought this was much higher in alcohol than it actually is. Just a little rum as well as oak and more yeast, that creates a very dry beer. Medium on the palate and a finish with dry, lightly roasted malt. A very nice beer, and it is great to see an unusual barrel rather than the standard bourbon.

Thanks to bluemeow76 for bringing a bottle home from a trip. The beer is a dark reddish-brown color with a thick and foamy light beige head that recedes slowly. Slick, patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of malt, ripe fruit and yeast with some spices. Medium body with flavors of malt, dark fruit and yeast along with some hops. The finish is smooth and fruity with a mild spice and yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 bottle Colin brought back from his trip to NYC. Batch 2. Shared with us at Uber Tavern in Seattle. Pour is deep dark brown ruby, smallish tan head. Aroma is mostly about the red wine, it is remarkable how much this smells like a Pinot Noir. Behind the wine is some roasted maltiness. Taste of sour sharp winey maltiness. Smoked roastiness. Interesting taste, but pretty divergent from a beer. Finish has sourness. An interesting experiment to be sure, but the end result was in a sort of no man’s land for me.

Bottle: Pours a dark brown with light crimson accents. Large, creamy tan head. Aroma is rich and sweet with dark fruitiness, roast, and bourbon. Flavor profile is centered aroun the barrel aging, but still retains a little character from the fruits and roast. Nice creamy palate. Thanks to a generous, but forgotten Ratebeerian for sending this in trade.
